Preparations for “Where is the Math in Art at the SF Moma” August first

Kara Walker, a true hacker!

We are having our first out of SudoRoom collaborative art and math walk with our sister hackerspace Noisebridge tonight at the SF Moma (August 1st) at “Where is the Math in Art”.

We’re going to meet at the new Kara Walker: Fortuna and the Immortality Garden (Machine) exhibit, and what struck me from the intro video interview with the artist is that Kara Walker is a true hacker!

An intellectual expanding on the European and Western traditions, Kara Walker brings sculpture to the modern age with deep influences from Octavia Butler, notably the novel Parable of the Sower which seems eerily prophetic today.

This has been a really great experience bouncing ideas, and we hope to do more to get hackers and tech folks to enjoy the rich history of culture, as we all stand on the shoulders of giants. We’ll post more after the event!

We’re going to discuss philosophy, science, history and context, walking the length of the museum, but starting out with Kara Walker is such a delight!
