Conversation Starter: Anti Rape and Safety products for men, nonbinary folks and women. What do you think about these tech products?
“But here it is. Last week, a Dutch start-up announced the sale of the Invi bracelet, the latest in a long line of odd implements designed for fending off would-be rapists. When the wearer gives it a tug, the Invi releases a pungent stench that Invi’s founder, Roel van der Kamp, likens to a skunk’s perfume.

- What do folks think about anti rape and safety products for women and non binary folks? Are they effective?
- Would tech solve the problem of being safe in public as a woman / non binary person?
- Lyft originally started as a woman’s taxi service (that’s why it’s pink) but I think it was shut down due to gender discrimination laws. After hearing about all the gnarly sexual assault incidents at international ride share services, would it make sense to have something like Lyft?
- Has anyone ever hacked a safety device? Maybe it’d be a cool hardware hack night project.
- Could a safety product go wrong and unintentionally injure folks? I could see weird situations with anti rape chastity underwear…
- Could AI/ security products be racist or accuse the wrong folks? (oh duh of course they can) How far is too far?
