Brainstorming Topics for the Year of the Snake!

Brainstorming new topics

Fellow Sudoers! We are in the process of brainstorming some unstructured themes in this upcoming year. If we don’t take control of our destiny, then we’re going to get flooded with slimy crypto proposals. We’ve also been noticing a rise in neighborliness on the streets of Oakland during the week of Martin Luther King Jr. so let’s ride the wave and rise above it all!

Topic 1: Women & NonBinary AUDIO DJ and everything in between!

We have some superstars (Paige!) who have been guiding people through analog audio instrumentation during our Monday women & non-binary night. During the last discussion we delved into the idea of helping people realize their lifelong dream of being Hip Hop DJs, fixing direct drive turn tables, and getting more unusual people into audio in general. Making mix tapes, painting vintage iPods.

Even stuff like fixing speakers, retrofitting old audio mixers that people toss in the garbage, and hacking modified karaoke equipment running off retro cassette tape players.

We had some conversations last week about how a lot of guy DJs are super friendly and supportive but feel awkward digging through the crates with femme identifying people, maybe this can be the bridge, and then we can get some people DJ’ing a cumbia / Punjabi hip hop mashup party!

Stay tuned for more. We’re super grateful to folks that are willing to donate, instruct, and help out! =D

Topic 2: Theater + Learn how to use Hardware Hack Equipment + Costumes

If you’ve ever taught a class on how to use the laser printer / robot arm / other stuff it can be sort of a grind. And we force the same people to do it over and over again! Plus most people are just passively watching, do a demo once and never come again.

What if we took the pressure of one person and then turn “how to use the laser printer” into a fun skit that’s a k-drama / telenovela. We get costumes, music, and by practicing their lines the participants really learn how to the use the equipment!

It would also be super rad to have our wiki / documentation accompanied by drag queen glamour / show tunes tidbits instead of dreary 500 page PDFs or a wall of text.

Sounds crazy but we think it’ll work. Stay tuned.
