Hardware Hack Night: Mentorship & Realizing Unrealized Potential

Our hardware hack nights are inspired by unrealized and realized potential.

The next few weeks we look to inventors such as William Kakwumba from Malawi, who despite enormous hardship survived a famine, dropped out of school and then created a windmill based off a book he read in a library. With the help of mentors he went on to study abroad and is working to make the world a better place for people of all abilities.

I would tell most young people that in life you can go through many difficulties, but if you know what you want to do, if you can focus, and work, then in the end, you will end up doing it. No matter what happens, if you don’t give up, you will still succeed.

– William Kakwumba, inventor

We salute William for his unwavering optimism, hard work and ability to surmount incredible challenges such as leaving his home to study at boarding school and later in the United States. No matter how hard life was, William persisted, and he stands as a light for us all.

How many brilliant minds are out there waiting to be unleashed? How can we make the world a more just and beautiful place where every person can reach their potential?
