Inspiration: Jeffrey Gibson on the History of the tobacco jingle

Our muse Jeffrey Gibson providing context

We continue our hackerspace fan admiration of Jeffrey Gibson (currently running the USA pavilion at the Venice Biennale at “the space in which to place me”) with his explanation of the history of the jingle. He reminds us to think about the why before we do the how whenever using any technology or material during our time in the Media lab, and to create meaning in our lives through art!

The full clip from his interview at the Seattle Museum of art and his show there, which we’re sorry we missed!

How does your muse move you forward?

Let’s bring the art world and the best of its stuff closer to our humble hackerspace:

  • How can you weave the ideas of artists into your own hardware and software projects?
  • How can thinking about the why inspire so many interesting “how’s” once you start soldering and hacking?
