Dear neighbors,

You may already be familiar with popuphood however, I wanted to introduce our initiative personally.  We are thrilled to be establishing a presence in the KONO CBD (Koreatown Northgate Community Benefits District).  As the newest addition to the neighborhood and would love to have a chance to meet you and familiarize ourselves with all the facets of the neighborhood, residents, and organizations. Please let us know what YOU want in your neighborhood?
We invite you to join us in our One Year Anniversary Holiday Celebration December 15th at 9th and Broadway (Old Oakland)! Support localretailers this Holiday Season and see what energy and local talent we would like to bring to KONO’s local economy. Popuphood members are McMullen,Marion and Rose’s WorkshopUmamiMartPIPER AND JOHN GENERAL GOODS and Crown Nine.
Alfonso Dominguez and Sarah Filley launched popuphood in September 2011.  In partnership with The City of Oakland and Peter Sullivan Associates this innovative urban initiative offering six months free rent for small businesses in five previously vacant store-fronts in Old Oakland.  This multi-sector approach lowers the barriers for small businesses by providing marketing and support towards signing a long term lease.  We are rethinking retail and its role in revitalization, block by block. This year we have expanded our capacity with strategic partnerships in workforce development, tech, and academic institutions.
I invite you to take a look at our media room, as seen in New York Times, Huffington Post, and the Wall Street Journal.  We have received local awards and voted best of the Bay by East Bay Express and Oakland magazine.  After a year of hard work supporting Old Oakland and bringing eight new retail concepts to 9th and Broadway we are excited to bring our innovative model to the unique 15 blocks along Telegraph Ave.  Look for more events to participate!
