Hey everybody!
Build Your Own Internet Office Hours* is back this Sunday (after being
taken over by disaster.radio last week).
We have some potential node mount locations in mind, but if all else fails
we can hang out at the Omni and talk about networking (maybe we can even
put a new node or two on our roof).
Potential topics for knowledge shares,
* All About Antennas - what kinds of antennas exist? how, when, and where
do you use them?
* Planning the Unplanned Network - what are some strategies for building a
network that can expand dynamically?
Everyone's welcome to come learn about node mounting, if we have enough
people we could even split into two teams.
Hope to see you tomorrow!

** What are BYOI office hours? It serves two purposes:*
*1. A jumping off point for people interested helping with a scheduled
Sunday node mount, but who are not able to attend a Tuesday night meeting
or are not "in the know."*
*2. A friendly time for new people to get oriented to the project or just
ask general questions about networking, the internet, and their service
provider.*
Hello!
I'm going to meet with bengo tomorrow (Tuesday) at sudo room around 2pm to
start triaging some of our open github issues.
Please join if you are free and interested! No experience necessary.
I'll plan to send an update email at the end of our sesh summarizing what
went down. One of my goals is to end up with a larger group of "good first
issues."
You can also join us remotely in the #software channel of
peoplesopen.net/chat.

Hi all:
Thanks for a great and informative meeting last night! For those of you I
didn't meet, my name is Selene and I'm a reporter for local public radio
station KALW <http://www.kalw.org/#stream/0>. I'm covering a story on this
project.
I'm looking for folks to interview, so if you're passionate about this
project and are free for 5-10 minutes sometime in the next two weeks,
please let me know! We'll talk about your involvement and why this project
is important. I'm interested in talking to everyone, but if your role is
non-technical, or you're well versed in making complex concepts
understandable, I'd especially love to interview you.
I would also love to come along on a node mount if one is happening in the
next couple weeks, so please let me know about any upcoming plans. I think
it would be great for radio.
My email is selross2(a)gmail.com and number is (510) 816-0458. Feel free to
text/call/email with any questions or if you'd like to be interviewed!
Thanks again –
Selene Ross
MESH THE PLANET!
As a followup to the Internet Archive's Decentralized Web Summit (https://decentralizedweb.net), members of Sudo Mesh (https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Mesh) will be hosting an unconference to bring together the decentralized internets community in the shared spirit of meshing the planet!
What: Lightening talks / hackathon around building and deploying the decentralized web
When: Saturday, August 4th, 11:30am - 6pm
Where: The Omni Commons' Sudo Room and/or its ballroom, located @ 4799 Shattuck Ave, Oakland, CA
Roughly half a mile north of the MacArthur BART station, ~20 mins from San Francisco
LIGHTENING TALKS
Give a 5-min talk about anything related to decentralized/mesh/community networks. Such as — decentralization/wireless tech, community/wireless networks, democratizing/saving the web, tech for social justice/equity, inclusiveness/exclusiveness of decentralized tech spaces, etc.
We especially welcome underrepresented perspectives on these topics.
HACKATHON
Have an idea for a service or app that could live on a mesh network? Or have a project that you've started but could use some help to make some progress on? Come propose it to fellow attendees and maybe you can convince others to work on your rad project.
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS
If you'd like to participate and help organize event this Saturday, please come to the weekly SudoMesh/PON meeting upstairs at the Omni at 7:30pm. Otherwise, just show up on Saturday. We need help with the following:
* Front desk — welcome people, sign them in, answer people's questions
* Set up — it officially begins at 11:30, so we'll need help setting up the ballroom space anytime between 10-11.
* Clean up — event ends at 6pm and we'll need help getting the ballroom clean and back to the way we found it.

Hope to see y'all there!

I’ve worked for them as a tech and am still on good terms with them. They’ll train you, but the job is a mix of a little networking and some light construction. Experience with either is a big plus. You spend a lot of time in SF traffic, but you also get a lot of great rooftop views. Pay depends on experience but probably starts somewhere 18-20ish if no experience. Don’t take my word on that, though.
It can be stressful, but it’s also a really fun job. I’m happy to answer other questions; just email me directly.
