Nominations for officers and directors are now open. Requirements of the

- An accounting/finance committee (see recent meeting notes at

wireless / net neutrality who could serve as advisors and advance our
fundraising abilities)
- Suggested: Node Mounting and Software/Firmware committees consisting
of experienced/"certified" volunteers with more formalized processes
around, for example, safety and access, respectively.

Hey everybody,
A few of us have been discussing the possibility of starting a
"software/firmware working group" to handle some of the bugs and design
decisions that have been coming up as we develop and maintain various parts
of People's Open Network. In order to test out this idea, we will be
holding a knowledge share session tomorrow, Tuesday May 14th, from 5:30pm
to 7pm.
Mostly, we will be sharing ideas about our custom build of OpenWRT such
that more people feel comfortable making contributions to our firmware.
Additionally, we will have an in depth discussion of on-going projects and
look at parts of our software that are in need of attention.
Anyone is welcome to join this session, though it is highly recommended
that you are somewhat familiar with how the People's Open Network operates
and the code base and technologies being used to build the network.
Of course, we are still having our usual Tuesday evening organizational
meeting, so don't forget to add any topics you'd like to be discussed at
that meeting on Tue 14 May 2018, 7:30 - 9:00 PM PT.

Hi all!
BYOI Office Hours will be held at 1 pm in Sudo Room this Sunday, May 6th.
If folks are interested in getting their hands dirty, we'll be troubleshooting and repairing one or two existing sites afterwards. Office Hours will likely involve preparation for these visits, along with hacking on existing issues and skill-sharing for anyone wanting to learn more about the project.

* jorrit: we were just patching things today. 16 home nodes to patch. Idea is to move them over to the new exit node. Thought is to upgrade that server to the new tunnel digger. We should have at least one back up. Slow but steady. Work arounds for babeld crashes — root causes not fixed.
* juul: We can update patching scripts to failover to previous state if certain actions aren't taken to confirm the patch worked.

**** Mai - something we mentioned at the accounting working group: having an advisory board. Basically, having more public-facing associations that don't actually gain any oversight.

****** ben: the advisory board would mostly be a way to get more people with public exposure and/or useful advice involved without giving them power by placing them in the board of directors.

** Also, I want to revisit what Lesley brought up. We don't have a formal membership, and I still see the board as similar to how Omni/Sudoroom/Noisebridge operate on a informal basis. We want the board to take the community that runs the mesh into consideration. It would be to formalize that in some sort of way to require the board to do so when making decisions.
*** Mai - to me, it's not entirely clear to me how involved one has to be to have a say in things (voting, blocking in consensus, etc.)
