*Help Keep Sudo Room Alive*
Sudo Room is continuously short on rent, so any contributions will really
help! As a member, we suggest a monthly due of $60, and accept non-monetary
contributions such as delicious snacks brought to our Wednesday night
meetings.
We are on the collaborative hacker honor system. If you are doing well
monetarily, feel free to pitch in a bit more than $60 so that someone else
can pay less and still enjoy the hack. If you have any problems making a
recurring donation, please let substack or juul know in IRC (#sudoroom on
freenode) for a quick fix.
Sudo Room is very close to becoming an official non-profit. We're excited
to become a non-profit because it will mean that all donations to Sudo Room
will be retroactively tax-deductible with the IRS. However, we need to
raise $400 filing fee for our IRS 501(c)3 application. If you want to help
with this process in any way, please contact info(a)sudoroom.org.
DONATE NOW <https://sudoroom.org/donate/>
You can also help keep Sudo Room alive by reaching out to your workplace,
other organizations, philanthropists, and grant funders. These folks can
help bring in one-time donations or matching donations that really help!
Applying to grants is easier than you'd think, and anyone who would like to
will be supported in their efforts.
*Short on cash? Help with Stuff!*
Sudo room is seeking a boat-load of organizing tools--like clear bins,
shelving, label-makers, and other materials. If you have any of these
things, drop a note to info(a)sudoroom.org or sudo-discuss(a)lists.sudoroom.org!
AND if you can donate $$$ to help purchase and pick up these supplies, it
would be a high return on your investment!
Thank you for everything.
Greetings!
Tomorrow at the Omni Commons, we'll be hosting our first of a potentially
bi-monthly pop-up bazaar featuring local artists, artisans and craftmakers.
Stop by anytime between 12-8pm and peruse a phantasmagorical cornucopia of
objects and imbibements to titillate the tongue, warm the belly, inspire
the mind and adorn the body!
The mission of these Collabazaars is to create a sustainable model for
fundraising for the Omni's monthly expenses while simultaneously providing
local makers in our community with income and visibility to support their
continued creative / artistic / crafty / culinary endeavors.
As the sun sets both tonight and tomorrow, the Omni will metamorphize into
a haunted house befitting of its creepy cavernous and labrynthian corners!

Hi ya'll,
Looking forward to seeing some of you soon at the People-of-Color Caucus
today! Our potluck begins at noon, and the conversation will get started a
little before 1pm. The event will be in the Disco Room on the second floor
of the Omni Commons, 4799 Shattuck Ave. Oakland. Our sincere apologies at
this time that the Disco Room is not wheelchair accessible.
Feel free to be in touch by email if you have any questions.
Warmly,
Libbie
Dear friends, lovers and acquaintances of the Omni Commons,
Consider these questions:
* How does racial justice relate to economic justice and anti-capitalism?
* How does racism affect each of us as individuals and as a community?
* Why is there no such thing as “reverse racism”?
* What does it mean to experience intersectional oppression?
* What kinds of structures and processes can help us dismantle forces of
oppression at the Omni?
If you have ever wanted to discuss any of these questions, if you are
interested in racial justice, or if you have experienced racism at the
Omni, you are invited to join in a series of conversations about race and
racism to be hosted weekly at the Omni for the month of September.
The conversations will be structured as racial identity caucuses. Racial
identity caucusing is a strategy that recognizes racism as a system that
effects different racial groups very differently. There will be space at
the start of each caucus to discuss the use of this strategy. Anyone
unfamiliar with the strategy is encouraged to check out the resource
attached to this email.
We will begin with a three-part series for September, which can be
continued if there's interest:
*People of Color-only Caucus*: Sunday, September 13th, 12pm-3pm
*White-only Caucus*: Sunday, September 20th, 12pm-3pm
*Open to all Caucus*: Sunday, September 27th, 12pm-3pm
*Lunch: 12pm-1pm, Conversation: 1-3pm*
The conversations will be hosted in the *Disco Room*, and there will be a
potluck lunch beforehand, so please bring an open heart and something
tasty. If you plan to attend, RSVP to transculturalcinema(a)gmail.com with
the following information: which caucus you plan to attend, what food you
can bring, whether you are interested in co-facilitating, and any questions
or issues you would like to discuss.
These caucuses/conversations are being hosted as part of the *Becoming Omni
*process, which is a 30-hr. Visioning and Planning Process currently being
planned for the beginning of October. We welcome all those interested in
helping shape the future of the Omni to join in this process. If you want
to learn more, please email becoming(a)lists.omnicommons.org
Love & solidarity,
Libbie

*omnicommons.org <http://omnicommons.org>*
Hello!
*We invite you to join us on Sunday, August 9th at the Omni Commons.* We
are assembling a *Volunteer Design & Facilitation Team* that will plan and
steward a collective visioning and planning process with all of Omni
Commons. This future process, which we are calling *BECOMING OMNI COMMONS*,
will seek to:
* expand and transform our collective sense of possibility
* clarify our shared values
* examine our cultures, narratives and processes
* create priorities to move towards more sustainable and supportive ways of
being together and being in the world
* design an action-calendar for our visioning and planning process
The plan for BECOMING OMNI COMMONS will be presented to the Omni Commons
delegates council (our governance body ;) and actualized as soon as
possible.
*The details:*
*Who: *You! Anyone interested in joining our *Volunteer Design &
Facilitation Team* (described above)
*What: *A fun four-hour facilitated, preparatory meeting, followed by
DINNER!
*Where:* Omni Commons, 4799 Shattuck Ave, Oakland, CA 94609 (and possibly
on-line if you cannot be physically present)

entire session)
*Why:*
*Given our present circumstances:*
* We are in a serious financial pickle right now.
* We have an opportunity to potentially buy the building very soon.
* We are struggling with interpersonal conflict, overwork, and burnout.
* We have never had the opportunity to engage in a visioning process since
moving into 4799 Shattuck a year ago.
*We need to:*
* Reform our processes to be inclusive of as many perspectives as possible.
* Align our work and our organizing with our ideals and our politics.
* Provide a safe platform for constructive criticism and reflection.
* Invest openness, patience and respect for the diversity of perspectives
and experiences of all of those who have been involved or impacted by Omni
Commons in some way or another.
*How:* If you'd like to join the team and can attend the meeting, RSVP to
becoming(a)lists.omnicommons.org and share any important requests or dietary
