i don't understand what these messages mean - something about sudoroom.org
failing to send emails to people? Why is this happening?

It means that robcestes725(a)gmail.com has hit one of the gmail rate
limits for incoming mail [0]. This happens occasionally for people
subscribed to lots of mailing lists. There's nothing we can do about it
on our end, except for maybe discouraging people from using gmail.
The server will periodically retry sending the message. Postfix defaults
to holding a message for up to 5 days before giving up.

but we just got three of these for the first time ever, from three different
email addresses (and from a non-gmail just now)
i'm worried that we're sending out spam or something, are we compromised
somehow?

From the garbage username, it could be a bot trying to subscribe to the
mailing list. There is another one with the email
naphadeswapneel(a)gmail.com and the username 'srgvkdzyby'.
Not really sure why a bot is trying to subscribe to our mailing lists.
Possibly to try and send out spam? Regardless, they don't seem to be
able to confirm themselves, so it's not really an issue. Plus there
aren't many good ways to prevent bots from trying to subscribe to a
list. Some list servers use capchas, but I'm not a big fan of that.
I couldn't find a good way to locate which list these requests were
linked to, so I can't clear them out. They shouldn't really cause any
issues sitting there unconfirmed, though.
