Here is the latest RPS Collective newsletter. I used to be a member and
they started the Oakland Art Murmur (which became the First Fridays).
They are very active, have a space and I hope to involve them more in
SudoRoom and Nosiebridge hackerspaces in the year after I get a dang job!

Hello Folks,
The meeting with CAST was incredibly sweet and wholesome. They shared more
about their values. We shared a number of our existing problems OMNI has
had in the past, we also shared the essence of who we are, what we do, and
what we believe. They appeared to be genuinely impressed and excited. We
also gave them a tour of the building.
While they didn’t give us much information on whether they have intention
to help us with our many needs, I believe they see hard work that has gone
into the OMNI, the positive outcomes it has delivered in the past, as well
as the potential it has for great things in the future.
The next meeting is on May 1 (6:30-8PM) to discuss representation and
experience for QTBIPOC Collective Members. If you are QTBIPOC and would
like to attend please reach out.
We should invite QTBIPOC folks to represent their experience at SUDO, if
you know someone who you feel would be at this please reach out to them
directly.
*Feel free to:*
- Invite members to this event personally
- Reply to this thread if you are interested in attending.
- Email Directly to confirm attendance (williamrmyers(a)gmail.com)
I'm Looking forward to working with them to make great things happen!
Best
William
Hung out at SudoRoom last night, met some cool people and am continuing to
bring new and fresh faces to the hackerspace!
I'm still exploring web hosting of virtual reality. Aframe is a promising
framework and this would make for a clean and easy workshop!
https://github.com/aframevr/aframe
It's great socializing with folks.

I'm all in on augmented reality. I'm still thinking a lot about light
projection.
I have been busy, haven't had time to stop by. Will try to make it to
hardware hack night Tuesdays!
One positive change is that I've been minimizing as much as possible the
presentations I've had to look at this week. I think I just saw too many.
Another thing is, I'd like to come to sudoroom and focus entirely on
hacking. I feel like I was on that track, but really cool people would
distract me and try to get me into that the past few weeks.

It's surprisingly easy with glitch!
If you have vision Pro or a quest headset and have your web XR enabled,
jump straight into SudoRoom at this very moment :)

I think this capture has peter in it =D
This is fun, looking forward to building more webXR / virtual reality web
environments in the future!

Recently the OMNI has experienced some serious safety issues, including a
situation that resulted in police being called into the space. The
delegates are asking for volunteers that can be available generally to
respond to safety issues relating to Safe Space Bans, and other safety
issues...
- responding quickly to Safe Space bans
- making sure building access is revoked for banned people
- making sure that the Process's for safe space bans, as well as and a
process for reporting unsafe behavior, are publicly visible and available
in the space.
This will likely be formalized into an official committee later on, which
will include de-escalation training, but for now we would like to ask for
more volunteers.
If you have time for helping improve Safety at SUDO and OMNI please reach
out!
Thanks
William
Last night was quite magical! It reminded me of why I love hackerspaces so
much.
I invited 5 or 6 cool people from AI and augmented reality / virtual
reality meetups and hackathons I knew. I think most of them had never been
to a hackerspace before. three new people showed up, and none of them had
ever been to SudoRoom before.
We got an exhibiting artist to visit! I'd like to get more painters,
artists etc. to be visiting SudoRoom. Talked about paintings, and making 3D
models, and using the light projectors to project art. Introduced them to
the media lab with CeCe (sic) and the sewing machines.
Dane put up a light projector (I'm face palming becusa I keep talking about
this but never bring the ones I have, one of them is a loaner from SudoRoom
that I need to leave at SudoRoom), and he projected the hackers movie onto
the wall.
A cool new person came and we did multiplayer augmented reality with our
headsets. Augmented reality is at a nascent stage right now, but I love
creating art on it the most. We mirrored what we were seeing for others.
We talked about doing an ongoing blender class and I learned how to do
Booleans to cut shapes out of others shapes. I think since I'm time
constrained I might as well run a small pod of people Tuesday evenings.
Went over kitbashing.
Had some great green goddess pizza with Paige and folks. Thanks Paige for
supporting the pizza!
Explored the neighborhood (Temescal) with the folks who had never been to
SudoRoom before. AN ongoing theme is that we never seem to grab the awesome
foot traffic of the neighborhood. There were so many people walking to
restaraunts last night even though the area has relatively little parking.
More than you might see in a lot of downtown oakland
There were regular community gatherings at the board game store across the
street (is it called it's your move)
there's a kitchen appliance store that was having a cooking workshop (they
could be at omni commons!)
Only took a quick look at the new telepresence robot. I spoke to Jake, i
will have to email the company that made the robot, hopefully we can
connect to them and get a free software update since we are a non profit
While I was there I got an AI APi to work, might make something fun for a
hackathon or sudoroom demos. I'm very interested in using AI to help people
create art manually instead of replacing artists.
It was nice to see the dance event going on tuesday nights. wonder if I
should reach out to them and interact with them more!
we talked about fundraising for sudoroom, omnicommons and the MADE game
museum in old oakland. A lot of the stuff at Sudoroom is suitable for a
museum - it'd be nicve to have augmented reality exhibits of what stuff is
and "educate people" step by step beased on their engineering level and
computer history knowledge what things are.
There are going to be great things ahead this month!

Hi, Freeway (Wood Street Commons member) is requesting the following.
"Joel needs the following tools to fix our brakes: 14 mm socket,a jack,
21mm socket, a wire brush, a large flathead screwdriver... if anyone can
loan him these tools for the day, we can return them as soon as he's
done... thanks in advance!"
does anyone have a jack to lend them? I believe the rest of the items we
could lend from Omni's supplies
Thanks,
Paige
