The vending machine now provides some more feedback after money is put in. Source code associated with my contribution is here. I haven't documented the other components of the vending machine. https://thomaslevine.com/scm/sudo-vending Based on the implementation details, it appears to me that the bill acceptor is in fact plugged into one board (Arduino Leonardo) that is connected by serial to another board (Raspberry Pi). Why is the former board used at all? That is, why is the bill acceptor not plugged directly into the latter board?

reinstate Rannette's good standing

I said "your 'community' space," but honestly, I still want this to be my space, too. I hardly ever make a fuss about any of this stuff because it's all so futile, you know? but in this case, I really want to make my point clear: I think we should rescind our action against Rannette. I think she's been treated unfairly. Even if she is "aggressive" towards you or your compatriots, I don't think we need white dudes policing our space of black women's bodies. Matt, you claim to have acted in another's interest and you offer an injured third party -- let them speak for themselves, because I don't think it's your place right now. If there was a violent incident that threatened our space, let's hear it from a witness or an involved party. "Something Happened" is not good enough. Otherwise "but above all the Omni Commons must maintain a safe, welcoming environment" seems to fly directly in the face of the lived experience of too many black people.

Call for Facilitators / Participants in a sudo Men's Group

Hey all, I wanted to reach out for some feedback. Seeking folks who would want to facilitate or participate in a men's group. I've previously participated in small groups like this and found them beneficial for various reasons. I would like to see if folks have had similar or different experiences. The way I'm thinking about this would culminate in something like a regular meeting for men in the sudo room community to discuss relevant issues including those of identity, oppression, privilege, patriarchy, gender, sexuality, stereotypes, safe space, and mutual support. This may not be the best or even a viable path to approach these topics, but I wanted to throw it out there to see if there is any interest. Thanks, Matt

It's not huge as SEM's go, but definitely not desktop - more like "small room sized". And it would obviously need some dedicated person to keep it in good running condition. It is however almost brand new, and currently *running*, at <5nm resolution! Beam Services Inc is down in Pleasanton, so I guess interested parties could potentially go and have a look at the system. This kind of equipment would be a significant commitment and investment in time and effort on our part, so let's coordinate on this shall we? Nope, just finding a good adhesive for reattaching it is hard. I ended up just using an open cell foam pad to push the header on the glass mechanically. Henner wrote this awesome parts organizer web service, and it's running at noisebridge (and his house): https://github.com/hzeller/stuff-org here's the noisebridge implementation (type a letter to begin instant search): https://parts.noisebridge.net/# i would love to help fill it with information about the stuff we have at sudoroom, but i am not confident in my ability to install it and get it running on our network. upstairs laser printer

I wanted to print something tonight and went to the web interface for the laser printer: http://192.168.42.2:8888/ (it only works if you're in the Omni) and when I tried to print it didn't work. Why? Because someone stole the ethernet cable that had been connecting the printer to the network! Why would you do that? don't do that. It took me a long time but i found a replacement cable of the right length, and i put it back up there, and then i was able to print. if you want to print, go to the above address. Ravers Ambitions, New Sudoroom Collaborative Project

Hello Sudoroom Community, About two months ago Ravers Ambitions was created for the sole purposes of 1. Community Building 2. Education Through Collaboration (ETC). Rave stands for Radical Audio Visual Experience; which involves many artistic, technical, disciplinary, and organizational elements. Learning these skills alone could potentially be very difficult as an individual and extremely time consuming. However that time is shortened when people come together to share skills in a community/collaborative environment. And the diversity of skills acquired are much richer when engaged with members from different backgrounds, with different skill sets. We've had our first general meet up to make introductions, and plan around the purpose of this collaboration. We then had an informal (5 person) lesson, on the Introduction to DJing. During these workshops, regular contributors came as far from Marin, and San Jose, to provide expensive, professional grade equipment, for the five hour meetups alone. There also have been Sudoroom Members Omni Community regulars, whom participated. There quite a few elements that are emulated from Hackerspace Ethos, with as well. Nobody is in charge. Are transparent. Operate by consensus. Learning, workshops, tutoring or mentoring sessions, happen because people make them happen. Ravers Ambitions is the community that supports that. We still are new and planning workshops such as: 1) Technical Equipment (audio, lighting, video, etc) Setup, Maintenance, and Breaking down. 2) Dancing: An Introduction to Movement With Sound 3) Basics of DJing, 4) Visual Arts (LEDs, lazor display, video mapping, painting, etc), and more. In addition I wish this project to be discussed at the next Sudoroom meeting and be brought up for consensus as an official Sudoroom project.This is so that if there is questions, comments, or concerns, they can be expressed.
