Ham radio transciever build event went great!

Yesterday a bunch of people got together to build up their kits of 5 watt digital radio transceivers! These are HF ham radio transmitter/recievers that connect to a computer over USB, and allow communication on digital modes on what we call low frequencies these days (but they're also called Shortwave even though they're now the longest waves we use). Technically one is supposed to have a ham radio license to transmit on these frequencies, although anyone is allowed to listen in. It was the most soldering happening at the same time in sudoroom in a long time. The event will happen again on Wednesday. [image: image.png]

Concerns about new makerspace in San Francisco (General Lithium) connected to the MAGA/pro-Trump movement and the Military Industrial Complex

Sudo lighting

Hey folks, We¹ve got some dead/dying 8' fluorescent tubes hanging above in Sudo. Fixtures are for single nipple at each end. I¹d prefer warmer a color temp, under 4000k. Rather than cobbling together something, we should get the correct replacement bulbs. I found these- https://www.amazon.com/8FT-Bulbs-3000K-6500K-Fluorescent-Replacement/dp/B0C SYMPJHZ?ie=UTF8 I¹m pretty sure the CRI wouldn¹t be that great (the ad doesn¹t mention it). A local industrial lighting store in Concord (CME Lighting) has the Satco #S29917- 3500K 8¹ long led bulbs, 40W 5300 lumens, 82 CRI. $29.95 each. https://www.satco.com/products/S29917 The Satco¹s should fit the bill nicely and very likely be more issue free than the ones from Amazon. Decent CRI, local supplier, etc. We should try two over the incoming area then see if we like them. Shapeoko CNC machine is almost working! need help

Nicholas cleaned up the white Shapeoko CNC machine and then E and I worked on it to get it working again. I think it was donated in 2017, and it's in a very nice handmade wood enclosure. https://sudoroom.org/wiki/CNC#SHAPEOKO The spindle (cutting tool motor) wiring was chewed up by rats, but simply connecting it to a variable power supply would be fine to get it running. The actual motion controller is working fine. Does anyone know what software we should use to generate g-code to carve things out of wood or whatever? And to jog and home and run the machine? It uses GRBL firmware, there are details on the wiki linked above -jake
