I believe these folks are our landlords. Or are associated with our landlords, or some type of affiliation?
I will be attending if anyone is interested in going with me.

Friends -
People keep reacting positively when I suggest putting together an FPGA class.
Angela, did you ever get something to work on the FOMU?
David and I made some progress doing a TTL logic demo on March 2.
We could try again this week. My schedule is pretty flexible.
David, do you have plans to come in? Maybe Judy and/or Arik can join us.

Hi Sudoers:
StrayCap Multispace (https://www.straycap.org/) in Hayward is gathering
up expired school system Chromebooks to convert to Linux; they’ve got
hundreds on hand at the moment. (See https://bit.ly/cbsave for background.)
We’re going to join forces with local Linux enthusiasts tomorrow
(Saturday May 9) noon-3pm for a combo Open House / ExChromebook
Installfest; we’ll work together to convert and reconfigure Chromebooks
into “ExChromebooks” while asking: how can we best re-purpose these in
our communities to improve digital literacy, digital sovereignty,
digital inclusion, digital equity?
You’re welcome to take some ExChromebooks home to experiment with or to
give to anyone else you know who could use one. (Fill out this Google
Form: https://forms.gle/zMJjTxmQPj8ZvaJ39) You’re also most welcome to
bring your repair projects to work on and get help with. Please RSVP at
http://bit.ly/inpersoncoachsignup so we can get a head count (select
"2026-05-09 USA-CA-Hawyard ExChromebook Installfest at StrayCap Noon"
from the pulldown menu.)
Feel free to bring your repair-inclined or tech-inclined friends, or
tell them about it, especially if they live in or around Hayward;
StrayCap's a half a block from the Hayward Main Library (and a seven
minute walk from Hayward BART.)
Hope to see you there, -Peter
Hey all,
I got some messages sent directly to my email, not sure why not sent
to the thread to keep conversation going, but anyways.
They all mention using the old laptops' components that live at
sudoroom instead of using raspberry pis. Although I believe that is:
* A thoughtful option regarding upcycling what we already have
* A great way to learn about computer parts and how to reuse them
I also see some issues:
* That requires a deeper confidence/knowledge that not everyone
getting into cyberdecks rn will have. The beauty of a raspberry pi is
to be accessible as a gateway to learn more complicated things.
* Most tutorials I see on the internet about cyberdecks are using
raspberry pi. And those are VERY didactic/straightforward. TBD if the
ones with computer parts will be like that. Because that's how newbies
learn new things now, unless we have a real workshop IRL about this.
So I'd like us all to put ourselves in the shoes of those who are NOT
familiar with hacking/making/hardware/cyberdecks (as we always should,
IMHO), and think again how we can sponsor this.
