Dear Sudoroom,
Today I voted in behalf of Sudoroom in favor of the MOP proposal, and they are
now a member collective of Omni Commons. I emailed about them on April 20th
but didn't hear anything back, so I hope everyone is okay with that decision.
Today a proposal was introduced for a new committee to be formed at Omni
Commons to value and protect the safety and interests of BIPOC/Non-Men.
this is the original proposal in PDF form:
https://omnicommons.org/pipermail/consensus/attachments/20220505/ab900701/a…
this is an editable "cryptpad" and
we are requested to "please leave comments in red"
https://cryptpad.fr/pad/#/2/pad/edit/6IhZqwyXxN6CrEvtiljmnqTa/
actually this is a cryptpad copy of their document just for sudoroom, and I
will forward our discussion to Rafiq to integrate our input.
Other collectives are asking questions too, so if you want to be more engaged
in the discussion, please join the [omni-consensus] list! But definitely make
discussion here in the sudoroom list and get engaged.
If Sudoroom members have concerns or objections, we need to communicate them
promptly and work toward agreeable amedments. It is not an option to simply
reject the proposal, but rather if you have specific concerns then we need to
work with each other to address those concerns and come up with something
agreeable.

Hey all, I'm boosting this email with a new subject line so that it's
clear to readers - this contains an important new proposal!!!
Brief summary: this proposal forms a congress of BIPOC and non-men
from all Omni's groups, who then elect a small committee which has its
own seat on the board, its own delegate, and a few specific powers
related to addressing racism and sexism. This is an important step
towards making omni representative and accountable! This finally
begins to put our Statement of Solidarity into action!

I added a little note at the beginning on our proposal and the events
from 2 weeks ago. Happy to provide a short statement. In general, I
appreciate the apologies made and think this can be a growing
opportunity to forge a stronger collective. If it's possible, we can
open discussion on the proposal this week if enough delegates have had
a chance to review with the idea of approving at the next delegate
meeting (or worst case, the one after).
As mentioned earlier, we are proposing the creation of a safe space
Committee (see attached). We appreciate and accept all
feedback/comments/concerns.

Hey, Dropped off the printer with Toby and met a few folks who were excited,
skeptical, and questioning the printer. I figured I would share some info on
it.
Here is the page on the upgraded Z mod I did: https://seckit3dp.design/kit/triple-z
Here is the page for the main printer build: https://github.com/SecKit/SK-Go_SK-Mini
Here is some info on the firmware it can run: https://www.klipper3d.org/
(I think if you do some digging, you can find examples for the kinematic bed)
Here is the bed probe I used: https://coex3d.com/products/bltouch-v3-1-automatic-bed-leveling-probe
The stepper motor board used is big tree tech octopus v1.0 with TMC2209 drivers
If you have any other questions let me know :)
Also,
If you guys need volunteers or anything, let me know. I’d love to help out with really cool people like you guys.

So, I had an idea that I wanted to run past everyone: What if we invited people (both within Sudoroom, and perhaps some of the creative/art groups at the Omni) to redecorate our giveaway laptops? My reasons for suggesting this are as follows:
- It's fun
- It's an opportunity to introduce other Omni people to Sudoroom
- People who might not be comfortable coming to sudoroom for technical stuff might be interested in a creative project, and find us friendlier than they'd expected
- A lot of the laptops just have IT stickers on them indicating machine iDs and such, that don't mean anything anymore.
What do you all think? Would a weekend be good for this? Maybe a Saturday?
dear sudoroom,
I didn't attend the delegates meeting last night so sudoroom didn't get
represented. Someone else should step up to be sudoroom's delegate so we
don't get marked as "inactive".

Subject: [omni-consensus] Hellman Capacity Grant Funds - Budget Completed
Hi everyone,
Thank you everyone for your participation and support in this process of
allocating the $50k Hellman capacity building grant. My goal with pushing
these decisions to be made -- is so that we could see the effects of the
spending sooner rather than latter, which ideally would be increased
revenue (to qualify for the refi) as well as general improvements to Omni
functionality and morale (e.g. paying volunteers who were on the verge of
burn out).
[Below is] a pdf is the entire consensed upon budget:
http://omnicommons.org/pipermail/consensus/attachments/20230721/ea7b6f82/at…
If for various reasons, some of these funds don't end up being spent on
their allocated purposes, we could revisit the budget at a later date.
Perhaps the first meeting in September would be a good opportunity to check
in about the status of these things.
In Solidarity,
Sarah L

Hey Sudoers,
I just learned that Oakland's city planners are being pressured by AC
Transit to curtail their bikable city plan on Grand Avenue! And there's a
public hearing meeting on *Tuesday, July 25 at 6:30 - 7:30* here:
https://meet.google.com/tzk-sbcu-uwk
You can read more details here (SF Streetsblog)
but the short version is that the city said it wants to make Grand Avenue
look more like Telegraph, which I love, and instead the bus company is
like, "No, fuck that, add in another lane of high speed traffic through an
urban neighborhood. We might want it in the future. Fuck parks and
restaurants, we want concrete and steel suffocating the community.
If you've got a minute during Hardware Hacking Tuesday, drop in and be
heard. This is crazy, and I really hope we can speak loudly enough to keep
AC Transit from fucking up a good plan.
Lots of love,

Good morning!
I work for the San Franciso AIDS Foundation's IT department, I'm reaching out
because my org is restructuring, and we will be clearing out our inventory
soon. We have a large collection of micro form-factor desktops (2-5 year old
ThinkCentre's and HP Pro Desks mostly) that will get e-wasted if no one has
any interest in them, which I think is a waste. Would your collective have any
interest in this hardware or know anyone else that would? The hardware is
business class, and is good for small scale projects, project servers,
automation, ect.
Cheers,

Just for fun I added a theme for the August 29 hardware hacking night. I
realized that people feel pressure to aleady have a completed hardware
project when coming to the space - I decided it'd be cool to have starting
off points for exploring specific areas.
So I will bring worksheets like "how to design your own hardware hack!"
and we can even do stuff like explore the history of the DJ and audio
equipment you have!
