I like to work iteratively - I think a smaller event (I was proposing August 26th; perhaps in the afternoon around 3pm?) with just the latitudes would be a good way to identify what works and doesn't work with the meet-up itself, while we work to resolve the issues with the chromebooks. Are you going to be around tuesday? Or I could come in Wed to talk to you about it. I ordered some PVC free (laser safe) vinyl with adhesive so we can try making some laptop skins and custom stickers. Dont think painting right on the laptop is a good idea but interested to hear what youve been thinking. Its one thing if the computer owner is painting it, but another thing if we are just painting all of them/ a big chunk of them. Im happy to help with laser cutter whenever this event happens. And ok, only using dell Latitudes for this first event sounds good to me. The laser cutter can cut thin materials very quickly. Like just a few minutes for just a skin cut out for 1 computer (assuming no fancy internal cut patterns - that adds time). We just need to prep by finding good materials (some can emit toxic fumes when cut) and making a template design file. The software is fairly easy to learn. You can either design vectors in the laser cutting software, or import vectors you made in another program or found on the internet. you can engrave normal image files too but that takes a lot of tuning and probably won't work with stuff we are doing (and emits a lot more fumes).
