All:
There's a lot of wiki spam that is being created as of the 24th- I would
like to propose that we have either a temporary block or email verification
on users who create accounts and immediately create new pages, and possibly
a block on certain ip ranges.
thoughts?
(who wants to go in and revert the recent spam? Who wants to make it their
full time job?)

YES to all of the above. Email verification, and block known spammer IP
ranges. Also, how'bout a delay before a new user can create a new page
or even post to an existing page? Real members won't have a problem
with having to wait a couple of days before they can post, if it means
less spam.
Too much "open" = like having no immune system. Selectivity builds
strong communities, and makes membership mean something.

For now, I've disabled new user registrations, installed
SimpleAntiSpam<http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension%3aSimpleAntiSpam&…
SpamBlacklist <http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension%3aSpamBlacklist>. If
you want an account on the wiki, please email me.
The rush of spam is due to the mediawiki reinstall and cleanup done by
wrought and legind to get the wiki functioning again. If anyone's
particularly savvy with spam protection and wants to help make the wiki
more secure, plz ping me.
