Laser gantry, oh gantry, where art thou drivers?

Hi all, The full spectrum laser cutter I brought to the hacker pace has been out of service for some time, after Brendon's attempt to fix its loose keyswitch ended in board-popping disaster. (Shit happens, **but ermehgawd always remove power before fixing circuits guize**) Anyway, I bought some new stepper motor drivers to replace the burnt ones on the controller, but unfortunately there seems to be more wrecked with it than just that simple fix. I'd love to get this thing working for the community, though, that's a bit hard with no brains for the machine. A new board from full spectrum is $1500, but I contacted them with a "we're a poor hackerspace" card and they'd be willing to replace it for $250 if I mail in the old controller, which I feel is within raise-able reach. This would give us full access to their software suite / print driver, and a reliable machine. The other option, suggested by rayc is to use an arduino, stepper controllers and a g-code generating toolchain to run the machine. While I don't see any reason why that couldn't work, I feel like that might be a bit awkward for people who wish to use the cutter, and further makes the guide I wrote kind of useless. http://hack.rit.edu/tools/full-spectrum-laser-cutter/ As a community, what do y'all believe is best? Electrical cords running out to the street

There's an electrical cord that has been hanging out of the window by the front door. I think it's okay to let community members use electricity while they are here, but we need to communicate that cords should be brought back in when they're finished using them. I'm not sure who talked to the gentleman who is charging his motorbike - he said it was brought up at Sudo room - but I asked him not to leave the cord out there and if that message could be reinforced that would be great! <3 N

Good idea M^6 , and Einstein & I will start dropping trou, but I find I _can_ actually can get almost of all my Goldwater in the receptacle despite my underwhelming endowment, but only if I kneel in someone else's splatter. Luckily, I always wear shorts, so its easy to wipe off my knees. I'm going to pee sitting down at the omni: A call for others to join.

Please excuse the unusual nature of this email and take me seriously for a moment. I have started the practice of sitting down to pee at the Omni, which is not something I do anywhere else in my life. Before I continue, you may well be wondering if I am assuming that my readership are the owners of "hoses" as Arnas called them . "No" is the answer, but of course if you already urinate while sitting then perhaps this call to action is less germane. Here is my reasoning: 1. I Care about bathroom cleanliness at the Omni. 2. After close inspection, and many trials, even with the utmost care I cannot urinate standing up in a way that gets all my urine securely in the bowl without splashing a very small amount. 3. In my experiments peeing sitting down is almost fail-safe at getting all my urine in the toilet bowl. 4. I have the option to sit down to pee. Since there are two options, and one is superior from a cleanliness point of view - albeit slightly more labour intensive - and since cleaning will be done in solidarity by one of our members; I therefore am pledging to sit down to pee at the Omni.
