Hey sudo room people,
I am building a website to teach people how to code. I am looking for
someone to hire who would edit the site for grammar and to make the
instructions more clear.
http://oaklandcodeschool.org/lessons/
Classes should be coming next month. This website is on github and written
in markdown.
Thank you
Noah
Dear Sudoers,
Rick Simon ("Ricardo"), beloved by many, passed away on November 29, 2017. He was 48, born 1/23/1969 - originally from Miami, Florida. Rick lived in San Francisco and Oakland over the past decade. He was much involved in the community, including co-founding the Bay Area Community Exchange (BACE) Timebank, a bartering exchange system to help the local economy during the recession. He also participated in the Occupy Movement in SF and Oakland.
We, the members of the BACE Timebank, would like to commemorate his life, bring people together to talk about many of all the things Rick was involved in and cared about, and to do a volunteer drive in order to rescue some of his efforts.
Rick impacted a lot people’s lives, and we’ve been moved by hearing of his passing. This event will be an opportunity to benefit from his energy, by bringing to life some of the efforts that he is no longer able to put energy into.
Date/Time:
Please join us this Saturday, February 10th, 3:00 pm
Location:
Omni Commons, Entrance Hall
4799 Shattuck Ave, Oakland, CA
https://omnicommons.org
(1/2 mile walk from MacArthur BART)
We could use help organizing this event. Please contact us if you'd like to volunteer. Please send us your photos of Rick, links to videos, your stories and comments that we may read at the memorial.

If someone could share these upcoming actions with sudoers tonight, that
would be awesome. I'm still in Upstate NY til tomorrow.

it took me a minute to find this link (thanks Patrik) reminding us how to use
the sudoroom laser cutter, but here it is.
Is there someone who is willing to meet with Zerena (cc'd in this email) who
wants to use the laser cutter?
actually i've been noticing a lot of interest in the laser cutter so it would
be good to schedule a training. I'd go.

There is actually a laser cutter in Sudo Room that we can use (and their 3D
printer may or may not be fixed again as well). The old page at RIT that
describes the laser cutter is no longer up, but here's the last version on
archive.org:

should we have a new mailinglist for people working on the vending machines?
long ago we created one for "printing" which was to include 3D printing as well
as paper printing, but it never got used. Do mailinglist take up a lot of
space or weight or cost or anything? Any reason not to?
Or perhaps vending machine discussion should just be in the regular
sudo-discuss list and everybody gets to follow along or not as they will?

Is there a hackerspace that does welding in Oakland? I either need to
find a welder to donate labor or someone who can support me
inexperienced doing it myself welding / cutting / drilling the pieces
together - or do you know someone at The Crucibile who could support
this?
The photos show the first draft of our simple metal signs made out of
angle iron and in the background, you can see the current version and
size of our 4x1.5' posters.
Rev Books is fighting American fascists and has come under attack 9
times this year by the alt-right. There are many other reasons to
support this bookstore which is part of the center of building a
movement for revolution in this country.

agreed with laura 100%. given previous threats of physical violence to sudo
room members (which i personally witnessed), non-consensus on there not
being a signed agreement (which i also experienced the consenso of
in-person) and lack of clarity on next steps & future accountability, i am
blocking this proposal on behalf of sudo room until the aforementioned
issues are addressed and actually consented-upon. cc'ing sudo-discuss.
