This artist is visiting town and wanted to know if he could speak at Sudo Room or give away any art. I told him that we don't have anyone dedicated to organizing this kind of event, but that I'd ask if anyone wants to. It spans roughly four feet by five feet. I want to give it away in a raffle to anyone that shares a smile. This year being in a position of comfort, it pained me greatly to see everyone around me struggling with the rising costs of everything. Being from Guatemala I have a deep knowledge of plants and how to cultivate them. I volunteered my time at a giant garden in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, operated by the local food bank. I realized that I was focusing on the wrong things, while it was great to feed people, as a painter I couldn't stand by and not feed their souls. Given that fine Art is mostly out of reach from the working class, I decided that I would rather "sell" my painting for smiles. I want to provide people struggling for survival, to have some kind of hope. In our politicized world it is hard to be kind to others and not guarded. What we need is community and unity. I feel like this project gets at the core of what future artists will provide the world. If you would like I can provide files for ready-to-print media including a poster with a QR code and printable raffle tickets from anyone that does not have a 'smart' telephone. As well as the poem about the painting. I will be in the Bay Area during Nov.8th-Nov.23rd promoting my Art and the seven works of writing I completed during COVID lockdowns in Canada, while also working on my stand-up comedy and music at any open mics I can get into. I would be happy to give a brief Artists talk outlining the project and the future role of Artists as we fight to stay relevant in a world where AI threatens all our livelihoods. Attached are some media provided to me from the Saskatoon food bank while my painting was in their space. It's not required, but as a working Artist I would greatly appreciate any honorarium (if your organization can afford it) to help me with my travel expenses and shipping cost for the painting. Pilfer/Theft Proof Money Donation apparatus for Free Store (and Sudoroom)?

Hi Sudoers: Now that the Free Store has to pay rent: can we design some sort of donation apparatus for them that can accept money but is not easily pilfered? My initial thought is some sort of large free-standing but heavy plastic tube structure (e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorade_box) but I'm open to other ideas. Bonus points: add some sort of fun sound as in this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbEKAwCoCKw We could make these for sudoroom and the fabric and textile area too. we had fun looking over SIgnal's open source code this week. We're going to explore their repositories, they create a lot of cool libraries. They used to hang out at SudoRoom from time to time, but that was a while ago. I'm not proposing we do advertising or anything, but they are totally open source and share so much - is there any way any of them would be interested in coming in and giving a lightning talk? Omni and EB PREC/CALLI

Hello, I wanted to give a recap on what's happening with Omni Commons building sale and operations. Earlier this month, Omni Commons had three options to prevent foreclosure. The most promising option was to sell the building to CALLI (an affiliate nonprofit of EB PREC https://ebprec.org/). Once EB PREC confirmed they were able to fund the purchase, there's been a big push to work as fast as possible to finalize, given we are on a tight deadline to prevent foreclosure. *Acronyms: CALLI stands for Collective Action and Land Liberation Institute, and EB PREC stands for East Bay Permanent Real Estate Cooperation. CALLI does not have any projects under its belt yet, but its board are all current staff at EB PREC. Everyone currently renting spaces in Omni Commons are getting offered leases to stay. These leases are still in negotiation, and that's the main work that's left for us to do right now. Sudo Room is being offered a 34 year lease to stay in the bocce ball court space. We will have to pay more, but we are also going to have some well-needed commons upgrades (roof renovation is planned, bathroom renovations, rat proofing, etc all to come!). Also there will be some new much needed help in managing the building day-to-day and in conflict resolution. How the building is operated will ultimately be decided by CALLI, but there's lots of back and forth and they really want to work with us on this. Some plans include creating separate entrances and exits for SR and CCL, and restricting access hours + full building access. The entrance hall will continue to host the Free Store for now, with plans to add a cafe again up front later. That is not the focus right now though as there is this big hurry just to meet foreclosure legal work deadlines and finalize collective + tenant leases. This is really exciting, because just a month ago we were at a super severe risk of foreclosing. We still are cutting it really close, with us currently having received a notice of default from the foreclosure agency, and for us being in property tax default. The consensus among the building was that foreclosing would not be worth the uncertainty, difficulty, and harm to the community that the building being bulldozed would likely cause. So that EB PREC was able to step in at this short notice with the funds at hand, and a willingness to dedicate all this time into making something work out is really unbelievable.
