Hi ian and sarah,
Sarah thank you so much for passing this message on. Ian, thank you so much
for alerting us, and to Sierk and Chicago for assessing this failure. I’m
not in town and no I hadn’t noticed this condition, which sounds quite
concerning.
I’ve just spoken with Bain, our locksmith - *he should be there by about
noon today to at least temporarily triage the situation while we assess a
more lasting fix. *
I’m not in town, but from the sound of it (and going from past experience
elsewhere), the work may or may not possibly involve temporarily disabling
the action of one of the double doors such as the inactive leaf, or
possibly, temporarily putting in a slide bolt in the floor for one leaf if
that is needed.
I’m not at all sure what temporary measures may be required, but to anyone
who may be using omni, I would ask that we all *please allow the locksmith
to pursue a temp fix as he best sees fit*. I have asked Bain to ensure that
whatever the fix is, that the card reader if at all possible remain
functional as a manifest consideration.
Should folks have questions or suggestions, if at all possible, folks
should first try to reach to me or Sarah prior to directly engaging with
Bain, mainly so he can focus on getting a fix committed as he’s doing this
on very short notice and with limited time over the holidays -
I’ll apprise everyone of what was fixed as soon as I hear back from Bain
probably in the afternoon sometime.

Whist bailing out water from sudo-room ( 9 5 gallon buckets ),
Chicago brought it to my attention about people jimmying the front door,
and sleeping in the front couches:
Serig and I inspected the door:
The larger door on the left, has a missing hinge on the bottom of the
three:
Which causes it to lean towards the door on the right, at the top,
and separates the lock portion, slightly.
The middle hinge needs to be moved to the bottom,
and shimmed out. ( the top and middle hinge do not sit flush to the jamb. )
I told Chicago I would communicate this.

As the holidays have been upon us, things are just taking longer..
Fwiw. A closer has been restored to the small leaf, but the tension on
both
closers need further adjustment. Since this is
our (putative) ADA
entrance,
tension on the wider leaf’s closer can’t be too
strong - while less
tension
makes it easier to leave the door slightly ajar
(not quite latch) which
also isn’t great, so we need to dial in a compromise. Closer tension on
small leaf can and should be higher though.
Fwiw.. Hold-opens (hooks) at grade should be installed at corner & 48th
st
doors now.. They don’t work as well as I thought
they would, but I figure
they’re still better than the big orange cones which impede egress, or
the
flip-up door stops that just get knocked off and
also intrude on egress
width..

Also I just noticed the lower hinge is loose.
That can't help
