Wednesday meeting worthy or can Yar give the go ahead?
PS I'm referring to elements other than sex when I say "gross", lest I be
misunderstood

"prurient" aspect of their story:

On the matter at hand...I'd say go for it! That's not really based on this
specific magazine. I would generally say, if the media is interested in
covering something about Sudo, it's probably a good idea to let 'em, and to
give 'em whatever info will help them do it well. Even if they get
something wrong, that creates an opportunity to correct the record, and to
help people understand what Sudo is about. And the exercise of working with
the media helps Sudo folk continually refine the story that helps people
make sense of it.

Agree with Candace - they have some prurient
interests (but then, Sudo
has hosted Bike Smut. Pot, meet kettle ;-) but they also do quality,
in-depth reporting on "sub-culture" topics like hackers.
Even when they're being sensationalist, it's typically just because it's
a sensationalist topic, but they generally still do good reporting.

Vice can be gross, but they also can put together
interesting pieces
that reach interesting people who might otherwise not know about Sudo. Is
this for Motherboard?
Also, have we developed ideas about how we handle media inquiries in
general?

Someone wants to film Sudoroom for a VICE

tell them?
P.S. this isn't revealing any new information. They already sent the
same thing to Noisebridge-discuss.

Subject: [sudo-info] From VICE: working on documentary series
To: info(a)sudoroom.org
Hi,
My name is Paula Neudorf and I'm a producer at VICE. I'm working on an
eight-part documentary series about computer security and hacking that
will air on TV in the U.S. and Canada, and internationally online.
I was referred your way by a contact at Noisebridge, because we'll be
filming in the Bay Area the week of May 18 and are looking to talk to
hackers doing interesting things.
I'd love to talk more about the series and what we're after. Please
let me know! Since I'm working on deadline, it would be great to hear
from someone at your earliest convenience.
Thanks,
Paula
