It seems like Sudo Room should have a presence (i.e. a booth/table) at the
East Bay Mini Maker Faire in Oakland on Oct 19, 2014
To get a 10x10 space, an on-line application must be submitted before Sept
8.
Here's the details:
http://ebmakerfaire.wordpress.com/callformakers/
I'd be willing to help set this up and staff the booth.
Jake,
I understand you are the Lead for the electric install. Please look at the
attached .pdf, I made a first pass on the locations of outlets. I think we
should use the 3 free breaker spaces in the Balcony breaker box, in
addition to the abandoned "marquee" breaker. Looking at the front of the
Sub-panel above the stage it looks like the plan is to power the robot arm
directly from there, with a 30A breaker.
Also we need to figure out the plan for the conduit runs after the outlet
type and locations are finalized. We will need volunteers to help with
prepping the space for install (moving shelving etc away from walls), and
for doing the installation.
Let me know what else I can do to get power to the people! The draft should
be reviewed by everyone to be sure we are planning for all needs.
For example- what are the immediate power needs for the server? Can we
build in the potential for up-sizing? Similarly for the robot arm- where
will it be located? It requires 3phase 240 correct?
Thanks,
Whit
The drill press speed controller has some faulty wiring. I got zapped by it
today, though after having used it for quite some time. I have made note of
this with affixing a sign to the press and locking out the plug with a zip-
tie.
I will be picking up an AC outlet tester ASAP to sort out what is amiss unless
someone else can figure it out or locate one before I anticipate returning on
Wednesday.
Keeping Sudo Room in the loop in case anyone else would like this
info...please pm me if you need to.

Hello,
I received an invitation to the Maker Carnival in Beijing, which takes place at the beginning of October. The first one 2 years ago was one of the best Maker-Faire-like events I've ever been to. And I'm bummed that I can't make it to this year's. The organizers asked me to pass this invite along to anyone who might be interested.
The text of the invite email is copied below.
The full invite, with pictures and attachments is here:
https://noisebridge.net/wiki/Maker_Carnival_Beijing_2014
BTW -- I will be leading another Hacker Trip To China (my 4th) for the first 3 weeks of November. I don't have a wiki page set up for it yet, but here is a page for a previous trip:
https://noisebridge.net/wiki/NoisebridgeChinaTrip2
Every trip is different, because the group decides what to do as we go along. But we will visit manufacturers, hackerspaces, schools and universities, and we will be shown around by local geeks everywhere we go. If you are interested in joining me for this year's trip in November, please email me.
Best,
Mitch.

Hi, I hope this message is OK for the list -- I feel there's probably a lot
of relevant knowledge in this community.
I have a friend -- not a close friend, but somebody I care about and trust
-- who is needing to leave her home due to a volatile situation with her
boyfriend, very suddenly. She is OK for tonight, but she said she has
contacted some shelters and has been put on a wait list, and is not sure
what she can expect.
If anybody knows of good resources, or just has any words of advice, please
send them to me off list. I don't have much experience with something like
this -- I think she is very isolated here, her family is very far away, and
I want to at least point her in a good direction.
Many thanks for any help.
Pete
Hey Everyone,
Great party last night!! Lots of really cool people showed up, including a bunch from Sudo Room. Thanks for coming!
There was lots of great food, drinks, fantastic music, and dancing! I'm told we raised about $1,400! And Marcel got one of our 3D printers to print during the party -- and printed out our logo. :)
Naomi took that photo.
Here's a link to the photos I took at the party last night:

BTW, our IndieGoGo campaign is now above $16,000, with 10 days remaining. But we still need to spread the word so we can raise enough funds to pay our electrician and pay IndieGoGo. So, please spread the word!
Best,
Mitch.
Dear Friends :
I would like to request time during this coming Wednesday's sudo meeting to discuss the revised voting proposal for the Omni.
I understand there are concerns about this proposal coming from the sudo community, and I want to work them out in your meeting so we can pass this proposal.
Please let me know when I should come, & thanks for your consideration !

okay so we really really almost got the robot working tonight
we replaced the memory battery, and temporarily disconnected the other
memory battery and then initialized its brains..
and now it seems ready to turn on and move! but when you press SERVO ON
it tries to turn on the motors, and then says there's an error.
I think it's because we don't have three-phase power for it. But i
believe we can simulate the signal of a third phase for the circuitry, so
that it will think that everything is OK, and then it will act normally.
in the meantime, i discovered a treasure trove of documentation. If you
were asking before how to operate this thing (once it's functional) here's
the answer: read these PDFs.
