Hi all,
This Sunday I'm going to the Greenpeace warehouse to help build art,
structures, paint banners, paint puppets, canoes etc for the upcoming
big giant Oakland climate march in February, protesting Gov Brown's
expansion of fracking.
We need your help. Meeting at the Greenpeace Warehouse, 955 7th St.,
Oakland this Sunday.
I'll be there from 11am-2pm. Let me know if you need a ride; I'd be
happy to help. Also let me know if you're coming. It's accessible, too.
http://marchforclimateleadership.org/arts-organizing/
My friend David Solnit is organizing it, and he's a fantastic artist
(did all the art for the massive climate march in NYC in 2014).
If you've never been to the Greenpeace warehouse, it's pretty awesome.
They have all kinds of crazy equipment + artifacts from GP missions and
Oakland protests past. Please join us, even just for an hour :) See
another cool space and learn about California's changing energy economy.
Peace,
April

Hi friends!
As part of the Welcoming Committee, we're looking for folks to help man
the front desk of the Omni. Day shifts (10-2, 2-6pm) will be done in
tandem with La Commune. Our priority right now is filling evening
shifts, 6-10pm, as these are the busiest times for the Omni and most in
need of guides to point people where they need to go. It's a great way
to simultaneously meet new people and have a sweet spot to work on
things that are interruptible.
You can sign yourself up for shifts here:
https://ethercalc.com/omni-front-desk
What are the responsibilities of the front desk?
* Simply a face to say hello when people walk in!
* Check omnicommons.org/calendar and know what's going on and where
things are.
* For evening shifts, checking that folks are coming for specific
purposes and turning people away if necessary.
* Giving tours, if possible, and answering questions about the space.
* Security - to some extent, _unwelcoming_, in the rare case it's
necessary, we need to have at least one person near the door and ideally
two, so one person can detain while the other activates an 'all hands on
deck' signal we'll be working out in the near future. For now, the best
option for this is to walk to sudo/ccl and ask whoever's around to come
out and help with a nonviolent walkout of the problematic individual. On
that note, our bans list is here: https://omnicommons.org/wiki/Bans
The Welcoming Committee is also creating documentation, handouts to give
to people when they ask for information. We're collecting all the
necessary info, mostly scraped from the wiki, to be eventually split
into bits and graphically jazzed and printed by our
artistically-inclined comrades, here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1p6PFP4A1_7EypsyhqJ5qM4-HglKCgrk7h024fKJ…
Got suggestions and ideas on how we can do this better? The Welcoming
Committee meets every Thursday at 6pm in La Commune :)

hey folks,
have you seen at sudo a brown shirt that has a cyberwizard institute logo
printed on the back and/or a screen for screenprinting that has the sudo,
ccl, people's open, and cyberwizard pattern on it?
cyberwizard loves you,

Wanted to shoot off a quick reply before passing out. I have a shipment of those driver chips at the post office that I need to pick up, but since that's not going to be a viable solution-- I do feel a certain amount of responsibility and while I do not currently have cash this week i would probably be able to finance this in a week or two. Let me discuss the purchase with my partner before i commit though.

Hi all,
The full spectrum laser cutter I brought to the hacker pace has been
out of service for some time, after Brendon's attempt to fix its loose
keyswitch ended in board-popping disaster. (Shit happens, **but
ermehgawd always remove power before fixing circuits guize**)
Anyway, I bought some new stepper motor drivers to replace the burnt
ones on the controller, but unfortunately there seems to be more
wrecked with it than just that simple fix. I'd love to get this thing
working for the community, though, that's a bit hard with no brains
for the machine.
A new board from full spectrum is $1500, but I contacted them with a
"we're a poor hackerspace" card and they'd be willing to replace it
for $250 if I mail in the old controller, which I feel is within
raise-able reach. This would give us full access to their software
suite / print driver, and a reliable machine.
The other option, suggested by rayc is to use an arduino, stepper
controllers and a g-code generating toolchain to run the machine.
While I don't see any reason why that couldn't work, I feel like that
might be a bit awkward for people who wish to use the cutter, and
further makes the guide I wrote kind of useless.

As a community, what do y'all believe is best?
Cheers,
-Adam

Please be advised that there was an altercation in sudo room today. I
gathered that there may have been a person who might have seemed like they
were walking away with a sudoers' headphones. When I came to the hear what
the noise was about, I saw Elliot and Rayc arguing with a person I didn't
know. It was accused that Elliot physically tried to stop this person from
leaving in a potentially violent way. That person who had the headphones,
was not a member and was not vouched for. I asked that headphone-person to
leave, which was difficult, so I asked Elliot and Rayc to leave the
building if they wanted to continue their discussion with the person I was
trying to ask to leave. I'm not sure if Elliot and Rayc are sudo members.
If they are not, then I think through an Omni-ban bylaws them being asked
to leave should extend for 24 hours -as I understand it.
Time effective 1:30 pm on Jan 8.

Hey all!
So, Erik Strals - who made the 3D scans of the Omni ballroom & Sudo Room -
is coming back tomorrow (Friday 1/9) at 6pm, to do more 3D scanning of
omni!
Erik can't do this by himself - at least two peoples need to be on hand to
help Eric with the following basic tasks:
- Temporarily blocking off entry to all rooms to be scanned, so no one
walks through in the middle of a scan
- Do a basic clean up of the rooms to be scanned so the preserved-for-ever
3D view is not of a dumpy mess
Rooms to be scanned this round are:
La Commune
Disco Room, TIL & Den
Basement
As many other 'little rooms' / offices we can get to
--
TIL: Can we make sure your room is open/unlocked?
LC: We will probably want to pull down the tarps, put some books out and
perhaps clean up a bit to make the space look nice?
Best!
David
Shop vac? Anyone want? Want to pick up?

Apologies for the delay. I've had a think on the engagement letter, and
have decided to be ok with hashing it out in the open. It's very unusual to
do it that way, but I take it Sudo's not much into orthodoxy for its own
sake. Neither am I, frankly.
Can someone add me (@kemitchell) to the GitHub org? I'll put my proposal on
a dev branch in a /sudoroom repo and post a link to taxes@.

This is most excellent. Thank you, Kyle!
To upgrade the plan on Github, they require proof of 501c3 status or local
equivalent. Does that mean proof of our CA nonprofit status will suffice?
