Thank you Vicky! I would love to know what you said to them. :)
Here's a survey by city staff who are apparently crowdsourcing
artist/workspace data as it intersects with gentrifying cost of living and
cost of workspaces (but not obvious demographic factors like race). I'm not
sure what exactly this will accomplish since the damage is already pretty
deep, but there's a section at the end where you can directly share your
thoughts with the city staff running the survey. I really let them have
it!! :]

Subject: [omni-helpdesk] How to Build Better Hacking Communities
To: info(a)omnicommons.org
Hi Omni Commons,
We are running a *paid* research study and looking for people who are
active volunteers in the intersection between hardware/software (e.g. maker
communities, raspberry pi etc.) to talk to about their experiences as
volunteers in maker communities / fablab communities.
The study is for a large open source company and the goal is to understand
how to create better experiences for volunteer contributors in open source
and education focused, technology communities.
To take part it requires 1 hour of your time over a video call (skype or
similar). We will be able to reimburse you for your time with a $75 gift
certificate to Amazon.com. If interested, please fill out this short form:
http://goo.gl/forms/Y4chIu53pZ
We thought this might be of interest for contributors in your community and
where hoping you could help us spread the word by sharing to your
community. Your time would be greatly appreciated!
Don't forget to fill it out :)

Hello Everyone,
Linda Grant needs our help.
WHO IS LINDA GRANT?
For those that don't know Linda, Linda Grant is a mother and local Activist
here in Oakland.
Linda is a comrade that has been in the front line so many times helping
different causes that includes supporting mothers who had lost their
children due to Police brutality, etc. Now, Linda is the one suffering a
lost and needs support.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Last week Linda's grandson, a 2 year old, was killed in a car accident, and
her daughter lost one of her arms.
TWO WAYS TO HELP:
1- She reached out to me if we, at Omni Commons, can help her by providing
space where the repass can be taking place. They need to know this answer
desperately, and if it can be for free if possible. I offered my help to
find out, so that's why I am writing this email and I will follow up in
person with some of the working group that handle the events. -I asked
Linda for the date and time, but they don't know this yet, but they will be
providing that information by Monday at the latest.
2- While in communication I requested her any link to the fund rising for
the funeral so that I can share it with us here; so perhaps some of us can
help her with some money. Please help if you can. I know Linda from the
Occupy days, and she deserves all the help that we can give to her and her
family.
So, while the date and time comes to us, please, please, reach out to the
gofundme page: https://www.gofundme.com/b8922mp8 and donate what you can.
Many thanks in advance,
Daniel

The building WG is not embroiled in any democratic process right now.
At this point it's a few skilled people with a long list of
noncontroversial tasks to do, and not enough time in the day to
organize new volunteers to do them. Help wanted.
Hi all!
