Wi-Fi / Mesh at The Village (MLK & 36th, Marcus Garvey park aka Grove Shafter park)

Hello all, I just received a request from the people over at The Village, the encampment/occupation that was set up last week at the park on MLK & 36th. They wanted me to ask if people at the Sudoroom were able to help them get Wi-Fi set up over there. At one of last week's Assemblies Matt Senate suggested that Sudomesh was probably able to provide hardware for setting up an access point. The latest info I have (a few days old) is that Eli's across the street would be willing to share their connection, but I'm still verifying if that case. Would anyone interested to help be willing to either respond here, or preferably via Signal (my number is 510-771-7463). Thanks, I will report back once I know more details. Sierk

FEB 19th in Ballroom: Musicians and DIY Electronics Swap Meet

Hi Erik!!!!!! so nice to hear from you! I would love for you to have the event at Omni!! we have a booking system and here's a link. I just looked at the calendar for you (which is the first step) and it looks to me like February 19th is clear!!!!!!! That's assuming you want the main ballroom, which i think would be awesome. https://omnicommons.org/occupy don't worry about the second tuesday thing.. just say that Jake from Sudoroom wants to sponsor this event and that we want to reserve the ballroom for that date. As soon as your request comes in, i'll push to get it confirmed. I'm assuming we can collect donations of some kind to give to the Omni for use of the space? Just whatever is normal for an event like this at Gilman i guess. That's one of the questions on the form you'll see at the above link. Also, sudoroom will be able to supply a lot of cool electronic STUFF for the tables, so i think people who come to this will be very pleased. -jake note: sudoroom constantly has a big e-waste pile, and if you think the event will add to the unwanted electronics pile, we should plan for someone to take a truck to Universal Waste in Fruitvale after the event to clear it all out. How to set up Wi-Fi or Mesh Network for the City of San Bruno?

"For the past several years internet service providers (ISPs) have been sending copyright alerts to online pirates on behalf of movie studios and record labels. These letters often used intimidating language with threats of hefty fines and service throttling, but much to the dismay to those who supported the effort, the letters were about as effective as spitting in the ocean to raise the tide. Even so, many of those involved in the initiative called the voluntary program a success even though they're choosing not to extend it. “After four years of extensive consumer education and engagement, the Copyright Alert System will conclude its work. The program demonstrated that real progress is possible when content creators, internet innovators and consumer advocates come together in a collaborative and consensus-driven process. CAS succeeded in educating many people about the availability of legal content, as well as about issues associated with online infringement," members of the Center for Copyright Information said in a statement <http://www.copyrightinformation.org/statement/statement-on-the-copyright-al…> . The program offered considerable leeway to pirates. Potential penalties weren't levied until an offender ignored six or more warnings and generally did not include the cancellation of internet service. Part of the reason is that ISPs weren't comfortable with being liable for their customers' behavior and having to penalize them. It took years to hammer out an agreement between major ISPs and both the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Part of the agreement called for the creation of the Center for Copyright Information to take charge of the program and provide a way for those who received notices to challenge them in arbitration. While some are spinning the program as a successful education campaign, Steven Fabrizio, executive vice president and global general counsel at the MPAA, remains frustrated at the lack of results among the worst offenders. "These repeat infringers are the ones who drive ongoing and problematic P2P piracy. In fact, an estimated 981 million movies and TV shows were downloaded in the U.S. last year using P2P," Fabrizio said in a statement, according to Variety <http://variety.com/2017/digital/news/copyright-alerts-piracy-mpaa-comcast-a…> . TV white spaces technology?

Hi, is anyone tracking how are things developing regarding TV white spaces technology [1] in US and EU? Microsoft has been doing some pilots [2] in Africa and Ofcom in UK [3], and there is a interesting study [4]. But I don't see if it is actually possible to buy any 2nd or 3rf gen devices either in US or EU. If anyone has some links please share them. What is the current legal situation, will tv white spaces spectrum be free to use, ie ISM or not? I have seen some discussions at the end od 2015regarding making tv white spaces ISM but nothing since then. I was trying to find some up to date information for EU and tv white space technology, but came short. If anyone is tracking this please share any info you have. Thanks, Valent. Part time javascript coder needed for sensor-based science education project

Coder needed for NSF-funded sensor-based science education project called InSPECT. The project focuses on using sensors and controllers for plant biology experiments.
