Next two Saturdays: public library computer repair-oriented events in Oakland and Berkeley

Hi Sudoers: Our friends and fellow fixers at Thinkpads4All.org (a great bunch of high schoolers and college students) are holding computer repair workshops the next two Saturdays at libraries in Oakland and Berkeley: -Saturday, June 21, 2025 2:30pm – 5:00pm 81st Avenue Branch, Oakland Public Library https://oaklandlibrary.bibliocommons.com/events/67cb854e596bfd2f001864d4 -Saturday, June 28 1:00pm - 3:00pm Tarea Hall Pittman South Branch, Berkeley Public Library https://berkeleypubliclibrary.libnet.info/event/13755420 Thinkpads4All brings laptops and disassembly tools to guide participants through taking a laptop apart – to change the battery, to upgrade memory, to replace the hard drive, etc. I’ve been attending their workshops to field general questions about tech repair. You’re welcome to attend just to participate in the Thinkpads4All workshop (and tell your friends too); you’re also welcome to join me in hanging out and fielding questions, or to bring your own laptop or other tech to work on. (Long term: we’re talking with the Thinkpads4All team about incorporating more of a Sudo Room-like component to their future workshops, e.g. inviting people to bring their own broken laptops, helping with software migration (e.g. Windows 10 end of support is this October), and converting laptops and Chromebooks to Linux.) ice protests

There is an ICE protest at fruitvale tonight at 6pm so I will either be late to tonight's meetup or not able to make it depending on how things go. This brought up a project I was interested in building, a stingray detector. The instructions I found online require either a RTL-SDR v3 or a HackRF One. Before I buy one online, I was wondering if anyone has one they'd be willing to loan to this project? -- Patrick Clawson
