considering forming an LLC to collate individual investors to lend to Omni

The idea to form an LLC which could represent a coalition of individual sub-lenders to bail out Omni Commons has been suggested by several people. This would make it possible for people to lend an amount less than the total $876K that we need (but not less than $10,000 lets say) to be a co-lender to provide a new mortgage for Omni Commons to keep the building. The LLC would be formed to represent the lenders in a way that they would be paid back (with interest) according to the portion of the loan they put in, and in case the Omni failed to pay its mortgage, the LLC would liquidate the building to pay back the lenders. Or the members of the LLC could agree on an alternate plan, and buy out anyone who didn't agree to the alternate plan. If anyone is interested in helping CREATE this legal structure please let me know. In the meantime though I still think our best bet to keep the Omni is to find a single lender willing to give us a bridge loan right now. -jake

Table to replace lab bench

Counterculture Labs is asking for one of their lab benches back. Those are the tables with the shelf above them, we have ten of them. We have to give them at least one, but we could give them two... And then get this 4x8 sturdy work table. Is anyone interested in making that happen? "This well built and solid table needs to find a new home. It is on the street on 26th between Magnolia and Adeline. This is a 4’x8’ table."

our mailing list system needs help

our mailing list system (postorius) is having problems... we're not sure what it is but it looks like some spammer is entering random addresses into the "join this mailing list" field and then our system is trying to email a confirmation to those addresses. Anyone want to log in and take a look at it, try to figure out what's going on, and figure out a way to fix it? We might need to add a CAPTCHA or at least a checkbox or some sort of puzzle so that people can't just automatically enter email addresses in and have us email them. -jake

someone trying to remove space from sudoroom

I don't know why Andrew is trying to remove 72 square feet of space from Sudoroom while there are plenty of rooms and spaces at Omni which would be great for storage, and are being totally unused (several areas downstairs) But I would like for our delegate to oppose selling off any of Sudoroom's space. I do think it would be great for Omni to rent space to the Oakland Tool Lending Library for $700 per month in an unused part of the building. I think there are plenty of things people have been doing to make Sudoroom nicer and more welcoming, and there's plenty more that we could be doing, and people should come in and get involved. I don't like how Andrew's words about Omni and Sudoroom sound a bit like the group that we had to remove, who wanted to "revolutionize" the space to be what they thought it should be, without input from anyone else. I do like the idea of partnering with the Tool Library in terms of workshops and skill sharing, and connecting to their broader network of people though. They're located out of the Piedmont branch of the Oakland public libraries, just up the street from us, and they rent a storage locker about a half mile south of Omni. I asked, and they spend about $700 a month on a locker where they store tools that they then drive by pickup truck up to the library twice a month for a tool sale. They know Omni and Sudo through Peter Mui, but not that well, but they said that they'd just as soon give us the money as the storage locker business. If we set up a storage space on the ground floor in Sudo Room, we could convert around 12 x 6 feet of floor space into $700 a month. Additionally, they're pretty well organized, but they don't have a lot of volunteers. If we partnered with them and cleaned up Sudo room, we could start running fixit workshops and tool-use classes and things, which could bring in revenue and members for Sudo Room. Overall, I think they have a much better culture of Sudo Room, and could help connect us to a broader network of people who share our mission but may not fall into the traditional demographics we're connected with. I really burned out of Sudo Room and Omni, but I'd like to come back in 2024 if I'm part of a functioning team, focused on genuinely reforming Omni, starting with Sudo Room. It's a huge space that isn't well utilized or welcoming to new members. Nice shipping containers with electrical and roll-up doors. $350-500 depending on the size, utilities included. 24/7 access, bathroom, internet, gated yard. A small group of fabricators, makers, engineers, artists, and other businesses co-work in this space. The space can accommodate electronics projects, metal work, woodworking, arts projects, etc. Not a live-work space.
