[Big Changes] Hack the Room Hackathon Sun. 5/26 - Details Inside

hi all, In late May 2013, we find ourselves with a number of hacks necessary to improve ACCESS to & functioning of the space. On Sunday 5/25/13, starting at 11:45AM and running all day long (until the wee hours of Memorial Day Monday with a potential midnight tofu bbq), we will be HACKING THE ROOM. we have hacks in a number of categories: hardware, software, and admin. in order to help people collaborate on the appropriate categories at the appropriate times, please reply to this thread or add your name to the list of attendees <https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Hack_The_Room> with the category that you'd like to work on and when you'll be available (if you'll only be available during certain parts of the day, sharing your availability will help coordinate everyone who wants to work on hardware for ex.) here's the current list of necessary hacks (please add to/modify this list at https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Hack_The_Room): Hardware Hacking: - Getting a raspi attached to the sudo <=> (common space) door. - Installing a circuit on both doors that will be able to send signals to their respective raspi's. - Move shit and reorganize space. Software Hacking: - Getting the mouse buzzer working - Creating an API for the door open/closed states - Whipping up some code for the homepage to interface with the API Administrative: - Getting a comprehensive membership list - prerequisite: hack on different configurations of membership & access (how do we determine who gets personal access to the space, etc.)? ...See the "member benefits" section of the articles of association<https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Articles_of_Association#Section_2.3_Benefits>for details. - (roadblock: Tommy needs access to the bank acct to get a list of dues paying members, no?) - additional thoughts: what else is needed to improve membership management? - Improving finance management - Need to determine areas for improvement in the current finance tracking/management system and areas where responsibility can be shared, etc. - Review clarifications required with landlords for space. - Meeting format - Outreach strategy - Encouraging regular payment of dues from members - Updating https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Door_Access also, we'll need food! ^_^ - marina

Hello good morning ! Started my first sudoroom hack in downtown sacramento the cartoon below that can be letter pressed or silkscreen printed and eventually given as an intro card to what we are about for donations Maybe we could even print this on the back of circuit boards for future electronics kits-- yes we can !!! My butt hurts from biking all over sacramento -- met a cool food activist bike shop edible pedals that does food delivery from farms by bike. By what means have queer users of dating sites and social networks reframed or otherwise hacked the systems surrounding them? What is the design history of the drop-down gender menu- and its alternatives? How did Facebook's inclusion of "in an open relationship" as a standard option for one's relationship status affect youth mores? What has been the effect of location-based hookup apps on the architecture of cruising? What are the economics of niche dating sites, and how are they policed? Besides hanky-flagging, what techniques/technologies were used to signal 'deviant' interests? How was handwriting judged in the evaluation of potential lovers? What is the techno-social history of the "secret admirer?" How will technological progress change the way we see ourselves? What are we without our iPhone and our beloved designer vibrator? Is the Marxian commodity fetish actually entering the sphere of (what a wordplay!) customization fetishism? If orgasm patterns are unique and impossible to duplicate, could one's sexual response be the ultimate biometric identifier? So, how worried should we be about the spectre of sphincter-printing? [Big Changes] Access Crisis 2013

Hey all, Got word and confirmation from George today that he is dissatisfied with our current access system--meaning we may no longer leave the door on 22nd propped open whatsoever. We need to (a) resolve our membership identification problem and (b) unify and maintain our full access management solution and provide it to all members (c) set up a telephone inside sudo room (d) expand access solutions to the public school, possibly other tenants up to a fair exchange (e) keep the hallway on 22nd to the elevator absolutely clear of all items. Seriously, we are on thin ice and if we want to remain committed to public access and thriving events, we need to get our shit together. I personally cannot commit to resolving any of the above items--but I do offer help and feedback to folks who can commit. // Matt
