it has a 2GB SD card in it that seems to have gone bad but otherwise i
think it works. I have the big plastic display thing it was mounted in,
so we can put it on a wall somewhere and have it play whatever video you
want in a loop. It has speakers too if you want it to be really annoying.
if anyone wants it let me know, otherwise i'll stick it in the vending
machine.

what did you expect would happen when you handed out physical keys to
people? they copy them and hand out copies, and then those get copied
too.
Now someone is repeatedly using their key to unlock the front door, and
leaving the lock in the "unlocked" position.
I arrived at Omni at 10PM and the door was like that. I immediately found
someone with a key and used their key to re-lock the door, and I confirmed
with that person that they understood to always re-lock the door after
using their key.
When I left Omni at 2:15AM, it was unlocked again. I had a front-door key
stashed somewhere and I went and got it to re-lock the door, since there
was nobody around answering my request for a front door key.
The moral of the story? Someone with a key is leaving the front door
unlocked, multiple times a day, including between the hours of 10PM and
2AM.
I have worked very hard to make sure the magnetic stripe access card
system is 100% reliable, including it having a battery backup and
automatic notifications that go out to multiple people if anything goes
wrong. I did this work so we wouldn't make the same mistake of handing
out physical keys that get copied and copied and handed out to whomever.
I propose we re-key the front door and only give keys to very specific
people who promise not to make any copies. It's easy enough to add cards
to the card access system (that's a whole other discussion) that we should
not have to be handing out keys anymore.

*We’ve been changing the exterior of the Omni to increase security,
accessibility, and improve the buildings appearance. *You may have seen our
beautiful new front door that improves wheelchair accessibility. Exterior
lighting has been repaired and we will add more as finances permit. After
long discussions about privacy and security concerns, we have developed a
security camera system that ensures footage can only be used when necessary
for increasing the safety of our community. You will soon see security
cameras mounted to observe key areas of the exterior and sidewalk. The
cypress trees have been pruned back, but there is discussion about problems
with them, such as providing hiding places for both people and objects, and
the mess they leave on the sidewalk.

Greetings from Omni’s newest collective project, *Agua Viva!* We are
remodeling the Entrance Hall to create a cafe and infoshop that will serve
as a welcoming and inspiring space for newcomers and oldtimers alike.
Aiming to open by mid-summer!
In the months of April and May, *Liberated Lens* is presenting Local
Filmmaker series with directors present for Q&A. So far we’ve screened *Chicago
Confessional* by Bryan Gibel, *First Friday* by Mario Furloni and N'Jeri
Eaton and *A Fierce Green Fire* by Mark Kitchell. The screenings coming up
in May will be: *The Waiting Room* and *Rezoning Harlem*.
Weekly *sudo room* meetings are now socials! Stop by on a Wednesday, 7pm,
to kick it with your friendly neighborhood hackers and learn more about the
various projects, meetups and resources available in sudo room!

last night we installed a full-size wood router on the end of the sudoroom
robot, with a 1/4" diameter endmill, using the metal bracket Elisabeth
made. And we carved a shape into a piece of wood with it.
if you need to route any wood stuff please let me know. I can help you do
it. If you make a simple SVG file with the path you want to carve, the
robot can follow it, similar to the way it drew this dinosaur with a
sharpie:

so there's a robot being built at sudoroom... another one.
it's based on a golf-club bag caddy cart thing I pulled out of the trash
at Shipyard in berkeley. It's pretty lightweight so it's less likely to
break peoples legs if it goes berzerk, compared with the last mobile robot
i made (MC Hawking) which was based on a really heavy electric wheelchair.
Robb has supplied some awesome batteries, lfp100aha which each need two
bolts to connect to them, M8 thread, and no more than 10mm long threads
with no shoulder. We have four of them so we need eight bolts.
if you have access to a kit of M8 bolts and can grab eight 10mm long (the
threaded part that is) of them, we need them to proceed with the robot.
it's next to the regular robot arm, which is in its usual spot. If you
bring the bolts to me or Robb or place them in the hand of the big robot,
that would be awesome.
Also, seeking AI programmers to make this robot work.

Hey all,
The network equipment had been organized recently, and the platform had been reorganized for better access to the printers.
However, I decluttered the rest of the junk laying around and consolidated the audio equipment.
Please help keep this area clean and useable!
There are two 1/8" headphone jacks connected to the "phono" input of the fisher stereo. One is on the platform, at the standing desk. The other is on the main sudo table on the ground floor, as usual.
You can also select the "tuner" input.
Please leave both speakers A and B on, they sound better together (less distortion, harder to blow out).
This is a lighter-duty set up than before, so the sound level should be more manageable. Further, we have several more inputs available, so please take advantage of that.
Maybe we should connect sudo bot in to one of these?

Hi everyone,
I'm just finishing up a move from Tech Liminal's space in downtown Oakland
to a much smaller space, and will not be needing some of the furniture.
We've already found homes for everything but this round IKEA table:

Would this be useful at the Omni? If so, I can drop it off tonight around
8:30 PM. The table is in okay shape - the top has some dings on it. It's
pretty sturdy and around 48" in diameter.

I have a contract position available for someone who is up for the task of
implementing/improving web-based 1D/2D barcode scanning algorithms.
The details are:
1. We have a partial DataMatrix scanner implementation that needs
completion/improvement (speed / fidelity) or replacement.
2. We need 1D barcode scanning ported from Java to JavaScript.
The first one is the most important.
The organization is the BioBricks foundation which is a non-profit: "Our
mission is to ensure that the engineering of biology is conducted in an
open and ethical manner to benefit all people and the planet."
We're developing a system to facilitate the sharing of open wetware (DNA,
strains, etc.) and part of tracking samples is scanning tiny 2D barcodes on
the bottom of sample tubes that are sometimes partially obscured by
ice/condensation.
All code should be implemented in javascript that can run both in node.js
and in the browser. All code developed will be released as open source.
Work is decentralized so you can work from home/wherever.

in addition to her day job at UC Berkeley's Restorative Justice Center.

does anyone know what's wrong with the wooden Type A Machines 3d printer?
i can't get it to respond anything sensible, and i've tried several
baudrates; 115200 230400 and 250000
sometimes it gives some gibberish, but mostly it says nothing.
