Hi All,
The previous post I sent went into the archive but did not go to even the
gmail -- Ira997(a)gmail.com -- that everyone else's posts are going to. Can
someone forward the two posts (previous and this one) on the archive so
that everyone can see them?
Anyone have any ideas on all this?
Have a funny day.
Best,
Ira Brightman
Hi All,
I just discovered that with sudo-discuss posts I was receiving at my yahoo
email, over half were going into my spam folder. In fact, one I had sent
was not in any folder, but did show up in the archive on the Sudoroom site
(as I believe did all posts).
I signed in to receive sudo-discuss posts at this, a gmail account, and
none went into the spam folder. So, of course, I will continue to read the
posts on this gmail account.
Have other people had similar issues with sudo-discuss and yahoo? Check
your yahoo email spam folder if you're not sure.
Have a funny day.
Best,
Ira Brightman
Hi all,
This Sunday I'm going to the Greenpeace warehouse to help build art,
structures, paint banners, paint puppets, canoes etc for the upcoming
big giant Oakland climate march in February, protesting Gov Brown's
expansion of fracking.
We need your help. Meeting at the Greenpeace Warehouse, 955 7th St.,
Oakland this Sunday.
I'll be there from 11am-2pm. Let me know if you need a ride; I'd be
happy to help. Also let me know if you're coming. It's accessible, too.
http://marchforclimateleadership.org/arts-organizing/
My friend David Solnit is organizing it, and he's a fantastic artist
(did all the art for the massive climate march in NYC in 2014).
If you've never been to the Greenpeace warehouse, it's pretty awesome.
They have all kinds of crazy equipment + artifacts from GP missions and
Oakland protests past. Please join us, even just for an hour :) See
another cool space and learn about California's changing energy economy.
Peace,
April

Hi friends!
As part of the Welcoming Committee, we're looking for folks to help man
the front desk of the Omni. Day shifts (10-2, 2-6pm) will be done in
tandem with La Commune. Our priority right now is filling evening
shifts, 6-10pm, as these are the busiest times for the Omni and most in
need of guides to point people where they need to go. It's a great way
to simultaneously meet new people and have a sweet spot to work on
things that are interruptible.
You can sign yourself up for shifts here:
https://ethercalc.com/omni-front-desk
What are the responsibilities of the front desk?
* Simply a face to say hello when people walk in!
* Check omnicommons.org/calendar and know what's going on and where
things are.
* For evening shifts, checking that folks are coming for specific
purposes and turning people away if necessary.
* Giving tours, if possible, and answering questions about the space.
* Security - to some extent, _unwelcoming_, in the rare case it's
necessary, we need to have at least one person near the door and ideally
two, so one person can detain while the other activates an 'all hands on
deck' signal we'll be working out in the near future. For now, the best
option for this is to walk to sudo/ccl and ask whoever's around to come
out and help with a nonviolent walkout of the problematic individual. On
that note, our bans list is here: https://omnicommons.org/wiki/Bans
The Welcoming Committee is also creating documentation, handouts to give
to people when they ask for information. We're collecting all the
necessary info, mostly scraped from the wiki, to be eventually split
into bits and graphically jazzed and printed by our
artistically-inclined comrades, here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1p6PFP4A1_7EypsyhqJ5qM4-HglKCgrk7h024fKJ…
Got suggestions and ideas on how we can do this better? The Welcoming
Committee meets every Thursday at 6pm in La Commune :)

hey folks,
have you seen at sudo a brown shirt that has a cyberwizard institute logo
printed on the back and/or a screen for screenprinting that has the sudo,
ccl, people's open, and cyberwizard pattern on it?

Wanted to shoot off a quick reply before passing out. I have a shipment of those driver chips at the post office that I need to pick up, but since that's not going to be a viable solution-- I do feel a certain amount of responsibility and while I do not currently have cash this week i would probably be able to finance this in a week or two. Let me discuss the purchase with my partner before i commit though.

Hi all,
The full spectrum laser cutter I brought to the hacker pace has been
out of service for some time, after Brendon's attempt to fix its loose
keyswitch ended in board-popping disaster. (Shit happens, **but
ermehgawd always remove power before fixing circuits guize**)
Anyway, I bought some new stepper motor drivers to replace the burnt
ones on the controller, but unfortunately there seems to be more
wrecked with it than just that simple fix. I'd love to get this thing
working for the community, though, that's a bit hard with no brains
for the machine.
A new board from full spectrum is $1500, but I contacted them with a
"we're a poor hackerspace" card and they'd be willing to replace it
for $250 if I mail in the old controller, which I feel is within
raise-able reach. This would give us full access to their software
suite / print driver, and a reliable machine.
The other option, suggested by rayc is to use an arduino, stepper
controllers and a g-code generating toolchain to run the machine.
While I don't see any reason why that couldn't work, I feel like that
might be a bit awkward for people who wish to use the cutter, and
further makes the guide I wrote kind of useless.
http://hack.rit.edu/tools/full-spectrum-laser-cutter/
As a community, what do y'all believe is best?
Cheers,
-Adam

Please be advised that there was an altercation in sudo room today. I
gathered that there may have been a person who might have seemed like they
were walking away with a sudoers' headphones. When I came to the hear what
the noise was about, I saw Elliot and Rayc arguing with a person I didn't
know. It was accused that Elliot physically tried to stop this person from
leaving in a potentially violent way. That person who had the headphones,
was not a member and was not vouched for. I asked that headphone-person to
leave, which was difficult, so I asked Elliot and Rayc to leave the
building if they wanted to continue their discussion with the person I was
trying to ask to leave. I'm not sure if Elliot and Rayc are sudo members.
If they are not, then I think through an Omni-ban bylaws them being asked
to leave should extend for 24 hours -as I understand it.
Time effective 1:30 pm on Jan 8.

Hey all!
So, Erik Strals - who made the 3D scans of the Omni ballroom & Sudo Room -
is coming back tomorrow (Friday 1/9) at 6pm, to do more 3D scanning of
omni!
Erik can't do this by himself - at least two peoples need to be on hand to
help Eric with the following basic tasks:
- Temporarily blocking off entry to all rooms to be scanned, so no one
walks through in the middle of a scan
- Do a basic clean up of the rooms to be scanned so the preserved-for-ever
3D view is not of a dumpy mess
Rooms to be scanned this round are:
La Commune
Disco Room, TIL & Den
Basement
As many other 'little rooms' / offices we can get to
--
TIL: Can we make sure your room is open/unlocked?
LC: We will probably want to pull down the tarps, put some books out and
perhaps clean up a bit to make the space look nice?
Best!
David

Apologies for the delay. I've had a think on the engagement letter, and
have decided to be ok with hashing it out in the open. It's very unusual to
do it that way, but I take it Sudo's not much into orthodoxy for its own
sake. Neither am I, frankly.
Can someone add me (@kemitchell) to the GitHub org? I'll put my proposal on
a dev branch in a /sudoroom repo and post a link to taxes@.

This is most excellent. Thank you, Kyle!
To upgrade the plan on Github, they require proof of 501c3 status or local
equivalent. Does that mean proof of our CA nonprofit status will suffice?
I am so excited at how many new members we've been getting! I heard
that tonight there were *fifteen* new member applicants!
Back in the fall, we wrote a script for new member applications:
https://sudoroom.org/wiki/New_Member_Script
I've been taking an extended break from Sudoroom organizing for self
care reasons, but I still care a lot about the community and culture
of our space. I think they are the most unique and important things
about Sudoroom. That is why we added questions like:
* What do you think about Sudoroom's values?
* What do you know about Sudoroom's history?
I notice that a couple months ago we edited the script to make these
questions *optional*, and from reading the meeting notes, it's not
clear that any of our new members is being asked these questions!
Do most people feel like these are less important? Am I the only one?
As has been seen by others, I saw this last night on the stage and this is
not ok. A large candle on a piece of marble in the center of the stage.
Whomever has been leaving candles burning, please stop. Does anyone know
who this is?
More importantly, if anyone sees a burning candle or other flame unattended
please put it out immediately?
This is a basic safety and fire issue.
FWIW I saw one other new-looking candle in a large glass jar being stored
in the upstairs stage-right room (audio production room) so whomever is
setting these candles alight seems to be storing them there.
Whomever wants to burn candles please speak up or talk to the commons group
Thank you!

Hi All,
I am a Sudoroom member working on putting up a website which will start a
major movement to accelerate health and life extension research (stem
cells, nanotechnology, The Human Genome Project, tissue engineering, etc.)
Mainstream scientists are saying aging and disease will be totally
conquered in about 200 years. Why should those of us now alive be left out?
We were on the moon in eight years; we had the atomic bomb in three years
from nothing but a theory. Scientific research can be speeded-up.
We also need to move quickly to evolve humanistically so we can handle the
coming changes. And, we need to make sure that poor people and poor
countries benefit equally, and at the same time, that the more affluent do.
These are the goals of the movement. We would very much appreciate a
volunteer who can help with putting up a website (or perhaps help in other
ways). If our project interests you, let me know by email.
Have a funny day.
Best,
Ira Brightman
Hi all,
We're having more than 40 people signed up for the Bioluminescence meetup
<http://www.meetup.com/Counter-Culture-Labs/events/219357264/>that I
scheduled at CCL for tomorrow evening. Just wanted to check if that's going
to be OK with the weekly Sudo meeting going on at the other end of the room
at the same time?
Do people feel we should try find another room for one of the two meetings,
or do you think we can handle having two biggish meetings going on
simultaneously? I want to make sure we can accommodate the needs for both
groups.
On our end, there'll be a bit of lecture with slides, a few short youtube
videos, some brainstorming, and a hands-on demo. I'm hoping we can keep the
noise level down during the brainstorming/socializing bits. We may wind up
doing some of the demos in the basement somewhere, because we need a dark
room and our storage room only fits a handful of people at a time...

Hi there -
I read about the sudo project while checking for events on the Occupy web
site. This is extremely interesting for me, and I'd like to help out
somehow.
I'm not sure if I will be able to go to meetings because I have mobility
issues, and it might just be too difficult for me to get there.
I have skills in these areas:
powerpoint
photoshop/graphic design
user guides and other technical writing
wordpress content management
light programming (html, css, some javascript and php for front end web
maintenance purposes).
exposure via coursework and various employment to java, as400 command
languages, command line interaction with linux/apache server, mega
proprietary systems in banking and health care sectors.
I live in Berkeley near the Ashby Bart station if you are developing a node
in that area.
Just let me know what you'd like me to do.

Hello Sudoers!
See below for a link to Sudo Room's January 2015 rent invoice. Since so
many people are out of town for the holidays at the end of this month, we
thought it might be helpful to send rent invoices early. Please pay January
rent whenever you have a chance, and let the finances working group know if
you have any questions.
I will send an invoice for December's shared expenses as soon as we know
how much is owed by each collective.
Thanks and <3,
Sarah + Finances WG

I gave tours to 3 Newbies today, and Brendan was talking with them when I
left, but neither of us put it on the calendar.... Hopefully someone on
the to fill in since we had to leave. They were interested in getting more
involved with building efforts at the Omni, and might stick around for the
general meeting.
Names were Austin, Yu, and James.
Peace.
Hello Sudo-ers!
See below for a link to Sudo Room's invoice for shared expenses at the Omni
in December 2014. Take a look and let me know if you have any questions.
As a reminder, please pay your January rent invoice as soon as possible. We
know that the holidays are a busy time, so please be sure to pay both rent
and shared expenses by January 1. If for some reason you know you are going
to be late in paying rent, please let the finances working group know as
soon as possible.
Thanks so much!

Hey folks,
Our new board nominees are: April, Leslie, 5c077 (Scott E), and scotts (4
total). Final ayes or nays for these candidates should be stated at the
next Sudo meeting (Weds. January 31st @7pm). Remember that the final number
of board members should be odd.
I am formally stepping down from the board, and Max has already stated his
intent to step down. That leaves the continuing board members as: Anca M,
Hol G, Jenny R, Julio R, Liberty M, Marc J [treasurer], Marina K, Matt S,
Naomi M, Romy I, and Troy M (11 total).
Liberty, Naomi, Romy and Troy: Do you still desire to be board members? I
ask because we didn't hear from you when the board was called together to
do tax/incorporation stuff recently.
Take care,
Vicky
