OK folks sorry for the late follow up, but I finally got a chance to tinker with this some more and was able to serve up a website from the raspberry pi using node.js, running of course on a battery rather than solar panels as it was about midnight by that time. Big thanks to The Doctor who recompiled node on his B+ over the better part of a day. I recommend following this link and using this package if you want to set node up on your RPi. What did work was compiling libv8 and node.js manually and building .deb packages, a process that took most of a day on a RasPi model B. Omni rents our ballroom, basement, and other common area for performances, celebrations, and other events. Rental revenue funds go towards structural and logistical improvements of the Omni Commons. Our rental process and fee structure are intended to make our space available and accessible to all of Oakland. Rental Policy Omni is a political project with clear vision and values. Our vision is an equitable commoning of resources and meeting of human needs over private interests or corporate profit. Our values include radical commoning of space and resources, liberation of knowledge, and transformative justice. We stand in solidarity with struggles against capitalism, racism, transmisogyny, and other forms of violence. As Omni is a commons, we dedicate the majority of the monthly calendar to events that build our communities. For event rentals, we prioritize requests from individuals/groups aligned with our vision and values, and we reserve the right to decline requests from groups that oppose our vision and values. Omni considers all event inquiries and booking requests submitted. In situations where a member group in Omni voices a concern about an event, we work in good faith with individuals/groups making the booking request to address any concerns in a mutually-satisfactory way before confirming events. Fee Structure We offer competitive rates for various groups. The fee structure below is provided as a summary. We evaluate the final fee for each event on a case-by-case basis, depending on impact on the space. $300–1,000 per 4 hour rental, Monday through Thursday $400–1,200 per 4 hour rental, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Rental time includes setup and cleanup. Additional time adds a fee of $75–200 per hour. We are open to exploring custom arrangements for complex events. They want to do renovations to make it clean and safe enough for bodywork sessions, and the bodyworkers want to be able to have final say over the layout and aesthetics of the room.

robot has rectangular coordinate support now!!!

so in other words, you changed the robot from position mode to rectangular mode, and now when you save jobs it saves them in rectangular coordinates!??! that's awesome!!! that means we can now use inkscape to make paths and translate them to robot moves! we can put a sharpie in its hand and make it draw a doge! all thanks to the secret password, which is 24.#4.#2 !!!! is anyone good at inkscape? we need to figure out how to scale a path to the coordinates range we are actually working with. It's sort of unclear in the proposal, but from what I understand Backspace is only asking to lock ONE room for dedicated space - the "eyeball room" upstairs with the large circular window. The "bunker room" under the staircase would only be locked when in active use, and the "den" upstairs would always be unlocked and schedulable, with Backspace getting scheduling priority. Do I understand that right? Also, people are calling that bunker room "ADA accessible", but sadly it is not. Yes, there are no extra steps from the wheelchair lift, but the doors are narrow and there is hardly any turning radius.

We already have two paired lines with two phone #s, so I think all we need to do is wire up the other one. We could try to change the payment setup, although Sonic gave us grief for trying that at 2141, which was why we switched to LMI. :/ I just put this month's bill on the wiki: https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Example_Internet_Bill As you can see, the way they charge us is complicated. It's $140 but most of that obviously goes to internet, including line items that non-Sudoers probably don't care about like static IP address. All the tiny fees for phone service probably add up to ~$10 per line on their own.

kitchen wg report-back

I went to this Sunday's kitchen working group meeting. Some things to know: 1/3 of the industrial stove is working. The other 2/3 needs new parts which Joe can get for the very discounted price of $300. I propose that Omni collectives pay for this since we will be using it a lot. They are working on replacing the large water boiler with a tiny instant heater, cutting & rotating the large metal basin sink, and installing the 3-basin sink from Noisebridge via CCL between that and the stove. They would like to open up the northwest part of the room by disassembling the old shelves & countertops, and removing the street-facing drywall to expose the windows hidden behind them. Does anybody know if the landlords have been notified of this kitchen work yet? Do we need to write up more detailed plans before doing this stuff? The downstairs kitchen will not have room for any of our appliances from upstairs such as fridges or stoves. FNB cooks are already concerned about space being too tight. We will have to keep the fridges out in the basement common area, or somewhere else in the building. We may not need the electric stoves once the wolf range is fully lit. Joe will find another home for the chest freezer, as it belonged to him and apparently nobody has used it here.

Sudoroom incorporated last year as a California Nonprofit, which is structured with the intent to apply for federal 501c3. This year we officially decided to do it, after many months of arguing over whether other subsections (501c4, etc) were a better fit. But we never actually followed up with the IRS. We still have to file our 1023 to officially ask for 501c3 status. THEN begins the multi-year process of waiting for approval. But we haven't even entered the waiting room yet. It's a very long-standing action item. Let's do it!

attempted robbery outside omni

Last night, Sunday Oct. 12th at about 11:30 PM about four of us were sitting outside omni on the chairs behind the stop sign. A few people came up on a diagonal path toward us, but many of them did not seem headed toward us. One person seemed to be pulling or pushing another younger person with him, and they were headed closest to us. Then this guy started acting weird, stuck both of his hands deep into his pants (which were very loose) and started moving in and out of peoples personal spaces. He said something i don't remember, and I asked him what he was doing. but then he said "How much money y'all got?" everyone answered "none, we don't have any money." making it clear that we were not intimidated. He said he was going to "blast" the place up, trying to suggest that he had a gun and he was going to start shooting. I don't think any of the other people in his group were supporting his actions, at least they were not close to us. Maybe the small person he had been pushing/pulling but i don't remember. Then he started getting in my personal space, and I thought that he might try something physical with us, or try to grab someone's bag (like mine) so the next time he moved back, I jumped up and ran inside the omni, yelling "I AM CALLING THE POLICE!" out the door. I think he moved to grab or follow me inside, but the others outside stood up and complicated things for him. I ran inside and stashed my bag and told people inside to come outside right away. Someone grabbed a fire extinguisher in case a weapon was needed, but when we got outside he was already leaving I think. The point is, we should discuss best practices in situations like these, and also discuss a sign that should be placed inside the omni advising people who will be sitting outside to prepare for this type of situation. probably a sign reminding people of the possibility of this or worse happening, and a suggestion to avoid being alone outside, especially with your laptop or phone out, especially late at night, unless you are aware and prepared for what might happen. this situation worked out well enough, but it could have gone differently. this certainly will not be the last time something like this happens. -jake
