Subject: Fwd: Lease for "Art Studio" in 2141 Broadway
To: "sudoroom(a)lists.hackerspaces.org" <sudoroom(a)lists.hackerspaces.org>
Hey all,
I'm planning to meet George at 4pm about Workshop Weekend, but this may be
a convenient time to turn in the lease and get access to the "art studio"
asap. Contacting Eddan about signing on behalf of Sudo Room. Please see
Laurie's note below that we may have others on the lease, but insurance is
simpler if it is simply Sudo Room (which I presume means those signatories
on the Doing-Business-As aka Fictitious Business Name--Eddan and myself).

Hi Matt-****
Attached please find a copy of the lease. I was extremely tired when I got
home last night and just crashed out without finishing the lease. I’m so
sorry about that! But I got up quite early as a result, so hopefully
you’ll get this first thing in the morning.****
You’ll see that there is a little bit that we’re trying to work out with
Utilities….since there is so much common area involved, there is a 6% load
factor for your space which combines your exclusive space and a percentage
of the common area space, which is obviously quite large. We are really
not sure with what intensity the space will be used, nor the amount of
electricity that will be used, since this will likely not be traditional
office space, so we’re willing to start out at 4% (which would be fine if
usage is mainly as a part-time space for people, without unusual amounts of
electrical equipment or HVAC being used), but reserve the right to move it
up to 6% if the load factor warrants it. In general, 1% of utilities
amounts to an average of $30-$50/month, depending on the time of year,
occupancy rate and overall tenant usage. If trash removal or janitorial
for this space is or might become an issue, that’s something that we can
discuss. ****
We didn’t have an address for you so you should add that to the lease. If
there are others responsible that you feel should be added that will be
there on a regular basis that is fine; however, insurance would be best if
it is a single policy covering the Sudo Room and all people that it might
invite or allow to share its space with.****
Let me know if there are any other errors, inconsistencies or anything else
in the lease that you might want to discuss. I will be home until
mid-afternoon at 510-635-9500. ****
I know that George is supposed to meet you later but we both have
back-to-back acupuncture appointments on Piedmont Ave later. Mine is at
4:30 and George’s is scheduled for 5:30. If it’s possible to meet George
sometime between 3 and 4:30 (whatever is most convenient for you) that
would be great, because he will have to leave shortly after 5pm. Let us
know what works for you.****
Thanks!
Laurie****

Hi George and Laurie,
After an online vote and our in-person meeting, we would like to sign a
lease with you for the "Art Studio" space upstairs in 2141.
If we can please clarify your most comfortable position on signatories of
the lease, we would be happy to comply. Ideally, we would like to sign as
the unincorporated association of Sudo Room (namely for instance that Eddan
and I have signed to register Sudo Room as a ficitious business name).
However, we can also sign as individuals if necessary, and would like to
know how many folks you would allow to sign.
Thanks, speak with you soon. George, I plan to see you Friday but we can
receive the lease by email (or by paper) sooner.
We would love to get access to the space upstairs as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Matt****

*Be seeing you.*
Our landlord has informed us that he's having his birthday party in
the common area the night of Sunday September 15th. There is a raw
food event scheduled for 3-5, and the party will start setting up soon
after. It sounds like it will be a fancy catered affair. He's asked us
to have the room as clean as possible beforehand - including finding
temporary places for a lot of the furniture and things that usually
live out there.
He was not aware of other events scheduled for that night but I think
bioinformatics is. Possibly others. We'll have to keep events inside
Sudoroom and the Public School, or negotiate use of the vacant rooms.
So i just signed up for this class on coursea:
https://www.coursera.org/course/crypto
It starts september 9th, but if anyone else signed up or wanted to sign up,
we could have a weekly study night to help each other.
I always study better with others, so if you're down, let me know!
i was just so blown away at the crypto party. all these smart hackers
sticking it to "the man."
i'm just so impressed at how passionate everyone is. why i was there and
the passion just showed. people were going to go hiking in the sierras.
they were going to fly to cuba.
sudoroom is such a brilliant place full of smart people. wow, the passion
just dazzles me. i am so impressed at all the after parties, and how truly
full of passion and genuine people are.
i am just so lucky to be part of sudoroom and all the smart people. i will
just dive into making promotional comics to teach small children how to use
3d printers now.
viva sudoroom!
it was so awesome to see so many good things at the sudoroom crypto party
saturday night. i dropped by and was really impressed. it is so cool to see
all these smart people taking things into their own hands.
viva sudoroom!
Hi guys! So I just got into oakland and was treated with a big bag of trash
outside the doorway. Excellent! Given the previous email I sent, a great
time to test the theory. So going through it made this AWESOME thing, which
is a miniature greenhouse (it's there, plant something in it) and gonna be
sweet if hemp goes in.
Do you think it's a good idea, that we could when we have a party have an
"afterparty" in the morning where we put on a bunch of music and hack stuff
or upcycle it, recycle it, and see how little we can get the stuff reduced
to? (there's really not any such thing as trash (except WalMart), think
cardboard, plastic bag, plastic, metal, aluminum, etC!)
re negative value, some guy I guess actually got pretty emotional about it.
So I hacked his message into the meme. <3

So enjoy, and here's a video. Because I'm at the sudo room and can't get a
working wifi+ sound (can we.. nvm), you don't get the one with nudity in it.

Hey all,
There was a link sent to the Nerds for Nature email list about using community photographs to collect data for natural spaces, parks, etc. You set up a single station with a guide for your camera, let folks take photographs with any device, gather them up, then use a photo stitcher to put together a timelapse.
I think this is an excellent way to document moments at sudo negotiated by the consent of individuals and through human action, rather than a webcam and automated constant stream.
Please leave the pedestal in its current position, there is tape on the floor so you can replace it if necessary.
Thanks!

Hi all,
Not to add to the clutter at sudoroom, but I'd just like to point out that
the big apartment building in Alameda that I've been living in will be
closing down this weekend, and there might be some goodies to be found for
th eenterprising dumpster diver. There's at least another dozen households
that will need to move out during these last few days, and the recycling
containers around the back are already overflowing.
There's a set of nice filing cabinets sitting near the trash, and one of
the recycling containers seems to have some chairs in it as well. As these
last stragglers move out (I hear they've got all three elevators scheduled
for moving companies from now until Saturday), I would expect a lot more
stuff to appear. Might be worth keeping an eye on...
Marina View Towers, 1100 Pacific Marina,
Alameda<https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Marina+View+Towers,+1100+Pacific+Marina,+Ala…>
Trash and recycling containers are around the back of the building and are
unlocked. There is a security car that does the rounds very sporadically.
Good hunting!
Patrik
Hey Guys,
I feel like we have a problem and I want to put out there, along with what
I think is a really reasonable and well thought out solution.
*Problem: *
In my opinion there is way too much stuff at SudoRoom, and it's just
unfocused and messy.
I think it's a roadblock to membership. We aren't equipped to deal with
this much stuff, and we don't have room for people to be in the space.
*Solution(s): *
*
*
One solution is to have a party where we donate, recycle, and throw out
things we don't need, in order to make room for a new design of the space
that accomodates more members and makes the space more usable.
As part of that we could hand out green stickers to put on things we want
to keep, and if people put stickers on things, then we can keep them. We
could also hand out a limited amount of red stickers of things that people
want to see leave the space, and we could bring up those items at a
meeting.
We could pool resources to pay for a dumpster, and uhaul truck. Obviously,
throwing things away would be a last resort, and donating would be
preferred.
I'm open to other solutions, but this is where I have gotten with other
members so far.
Fire away!
Rusty

Sudoers,
Does anyone know the process and equipment needed to do music mashing? I'd really like to learn what it takes--likely more than just Audacity, right? Is there a Today I learned... not yet on the calendar?
Thanks.
