Open Insulin Website Redesign - Volunteers Needed

It’s been pretty basic, but we’re looking to do more with it: post regular science updates & blog entries, provide solid information on how to contribute, and include more resources for further research. Anthony can do the coding, but it would super sweet if anyone ++ wants to step up to take creative direction on this. It is a great way to be a part of this project, even if you don’t have lab skills (at the moment). I would have loved to help take this on, but counterculturelabs.org <https://www.counterculturelabs.org/> also so badly needs an overhaul so I’ll be focusing my efforts there for now. Lsser cutter.... Dead?

Trying to get through a project but the laser isn't behaving. Stalls during a cut (with laser on of course) but manages tp start back up a dozen times before just stopping and burning a hole in the piece. Tried 4 or 5 usb cables with varying results but still couldn't get a complete cut

Hi Keoni - do you have any pipettes for the OT-2? We installed it right on the boundary between CCL and Sudo for now. Once we start doing real experiments, we should move it into the wetlab though. We also happen to have a Biometra TRobot, which is essentially a thermocycler with an automated lid, so it can be easily incorporated into a liquid handling robot. That should give us an ideal platform for PCR applications on the Opentrons... DNA barcoding of mushroom species is probably our #1 killer app for this robot. When Alan Rockefeller comes back from his current outing throughout Mexico, he will likely bring several hundred mushroom samples with him, all of which will need to be submitted to PCR amplification and Sanger sequencing. Alan usually mashes each sample with a little plastic pestle in an Eppendorf tube - not sure how to replicate that on the robot, but we could brainstorm a little device to macerate mushroom samples... BioPrinting is 3D printing with living cells. Think of printing a new heart or kidney for a patient needing a transplant! Or a bit more DIY-accessible: how about printing an artificial leaf, as a proof of principle that we can make a functioning (plant) organ? As some of you know, I've been heavily involved in the BioPrinter project at Biocurious for the past several years. And I've been wanting to get a parallel group of the ground at CCL as well. I plan to give an overview of bioprinting in general, go over what we've done in the Bioprinter group away Biocurious so far, get hands-on with the current hardware (which I've absconded from BioC for the week), and discuss plans to restart a Bioprinting group at CCL. Lots of overlap with our existing lab robotics and plant bio groups as well... Hope to see you tonight! Patrik

New trash and compost pick up days

Good news! Starting next week (9/4), the trash (brown) and compost (green) bins will be picked up by Waste Management twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays. I haven't added an additional recycling pick up yet, so blue bin pickup remains on Wednesday. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Phil/FNB have usually been the ones putting trash cans out on the sidewalk for pickup. Can other individuals or collectives assume responsibility for one of these trash days so that the additional work isn't falling on one person/group? In general, if you are around on the afternoon/evening before a pick up, please see if you can help with this task. Please continue to sort your trash and put move it to the correct bin in the trash room. Events that generate trash as still required to take it away at the end of the event. Thank you Laura
