Hi Sudoers:
See below: anyone here interested in taking on this scientific
instrument repair request for pay? Or as a group project for Sudoroom?
Cheers, -Peter

Hi Sudoers:
Jon from SF is coming to tonight’s SoftWEAR and Hardware Hacking Night
with a Broken usb thumb drive with his taxes on it so it’s kind of an
emergency for him:
Broken usb thumb drive Sandisk Ultra Laptop fell over while in
use, bending drive and making internal contacts disconnect Needs
soldering, but I don't have much experience with things this small.
Can those with good soldering skills help him tonight?
Sincerely, -Peter

Hey Sudo Room!
I'm in search of some suggestions, I'd like to build something that
would give me a visual cue for when to water my plants (I have other
similar needs as well, all related to how bad my memory is😂). You
could say I could set an alarm on my phone, but I'd like to set a tiny
display near my plants, that would go red when it's time to water my
plants and green when I reset it after watering my plants. Probably
need to code it to go red after 3 days or so.
Need something small, I thought maybe this MicroBit can be a good option
https://microbit.org/
Do we have one of these available at SudoRoom by chance?
Anyways, open to other ideas as well before I commit to that!

go tot he website to see the videos!
OUR SECOND DARKMODE FRIDAY WAS QUIETER AND MORE INTIMATE, FOCUSING ON
“TRADITIONAL” ART FORMS OF DANCE AND PUPPETRY WITH BALINESE MUSIC, INDIAN
ODISSI, AND THE ALVIN AILEY DANCE TROUPE
We had a more chill second DarkMode this March with projectors set up, but
it was pretty cool to focus on smaller themes with a smaller group of
people. What happened in this version was less anime, weird LEDs, and
instead chose more “traditional” performances to project onto the walls.
It’s interesting how different the psychological effect is when the screens
are less “square” and dancers appear all over the space on top of graffiti
and equipment instead of a big white rectangle. We got chills down our
spines projecting the classic “Revelations”
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDXerubF4I4> by the Alvin Ailey Dance
Company. <https://ailey.org/>
We would like to also bring more involvement with the dance community, and
viewing dance at SudoRoom! There is something special about watching Odissi
performed by the talented Sujata Mohapatra <https://sujatamohapatra.org/> on
the walls we usually weld, solder and program in.
<https://sudoroom.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_7124.jpeg>
What happens when your hackerspace becomes the stage in itself and absorbs
the spirituality of the dancers before you?

Alvin Ailey is soooo good!

I don't have a Mac but two people have reported something like "I'm
experiencing a 5 second complete connection loss every several minutes on
Omni"
I can look in the router's logs but it doesn't do the wifi, that's a
separate "ruckus controller"
So if anyone has a mac, and is technical, please try to gather some info
and figure out what's going on. Probably most people affected by this are
just assuming our wifi is crappy but there is probably something specific
that we might be able to fix?

Hello 4799 Shattuck Building Enthusiasts,
It's a beautiful sunny afternoon and I hope you all have had a chance to
feel the sun's warmth today or have made plans to do so this weekend. Below
is our early March addition to the Building newsletter. Please read through
it to the end as there are some important items I don't want you to miss. I
also highlighted key dates for you to keep on your radar.
*Recap & Reminders*
- *Trash Maintenance: *Please remember to utilize the proper bins for
general trash, recycling, and compost waste. The trash room has additional
bins that can be used for your events or meetings. I encourage everyone to
put a liner on every bin (regardless if whether it's recycling or compost)
to reduce the chances of food particles or liquid sticking to the bottom of
the trash cans when they are transferred to the bigger receptacles to go
out.
- *Foyer storage: I have given at least one person in the six lessee
groups the passcode to the Black filing cabinet. I encourage everyone to
continue to organize that space and make it functional as a shared storage
which may include both decluttering and adding items. I will be revisiting
the space in the coming weeks to evaluate its maneuverability and hazard
levels. *
- *Leaks: *The three roof leaks that were reported on 2/13/25 (two in
the Entry hall and one in CLL) were addressed by Sierra Roofing that made
two back to back visits to the building to properly seal a loose seam, and
caulk around a vent. Thank goodness for that warranty! Additionally, during
the atmospheric river in late February, CALLI identified leaks in the
basement that are a direct result from the deteriorated siding on the
Southside wall. We are currently reviewing the bids for that project and
hope to initiate work in the Spring.
- *Office Location*: If someone needs to speak with me regarding a time
sensitive matter I am usually available to address immediate concerns
Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons after 2 pm. Feel free to walk into
the ballroom and knock on the door behind the bar. That is usually the best
location to start if you are looking for me.
*Updates, What's New, & Next Steps*
- *Building Rules: *The long awaited Version 1 4799 Shattuck Ave.
Building Rules is [HERE!!!
We highly encourage as many representatives in your groups to review it and
complete our FEEDBACK FORM <https://forms.gle/hEJhREnduWD4im8L8>. I am
able to provide physical copies of the document upon request and I have set
up office hours [SIGN UP HERE
<https://calendly.com/valerie-thecalli/30min>.] in case that is an
easier way for you to comment and engage with the document. I want to
emphasize that this is our first draft (hence version 1) of the building
rules which is likely to change and improve over time. Your participation
in the feedback process can strengthen this document and help us become
more accountable to one another and the space. While I will always welcome
your suggestions, the priority deadline for submitting feedback is
Monday, March 24th. The V1 Building Rules will begin to be enforced in
the next lease period effective March 25th, 2025.
- *Facility Repairs & Improvements*: Don Luis has been out for two weeks
and will return next week! We will also have a plumber on site next Tuesday
to examine the water pressure issue in the back restroom as well as address
other building projects.
- *WATER SHUT OFF NOTICE*: Tuesday, March 11th from 12:3-2:30 the
building may experience water interruptions while we test the water
pressure and troubleshoot various plumbing issues. Please plan
accordingly
and let me know ASAP if this is a concern.
- *Gathering & Brainstorm Session: *As winter winds down and CALLI gets
more settled into the building, we can finally set our sights on what we
want to manifest in the future. We would like to host an informal
gatherings where we can have conversations, brainstorm, and vision
together. The tentative date based on CALLI team members
availability is Tuesday,
March 25th, 2025. Please use this When2Met link [HERE
<https://www.when2meet.com/?29443452-IJ9r5>] by Friday, March 14th to
indicate your availability on that day so we can confirm the time and begin
outreaching.
- *Entryhall floor cleaning*: On Thursday, March 13th Wynd and I will be
relocating the Free Store back to the other side of the Entryhall so that
Don Luis can finish the floor cleaning and polishing process. This will
likely take place on March 18 between 10-2 pm. If you see walkways
blocked off and signage posted please honor the request and go around. I
would encourage everyone to plan ahead by scheduling entrance/exit and
packages to the side door and avoiding the ADA restroom until after the
timeframe allotted.
That concludes my reminders and updates for now. As always please do not
hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
Take care,
--

Hi Sudoers:
I have three Master 175-style resettable combination padlocks that I’d
like to reuse but I don’t know the combinations so I’d like to decode at
least one of them so that I can reset the combination.
Apparently Master 175-style resettable combination padlocks are
relatively easy to decode, and I tried the technique in this video
(using a thin sliver of aluminum) but I don’t have enough experience to
have the right touch. Or maybe if I had the right tools it would work.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzozWmdrPt0
(I also found this video of a dismantled Master 175 helpful:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmLrw4QjXzg
Any locksports out there willing to give this a try? Or aspiring
locksports? I’ll bring them tonight to Sudoroom. Or contact me off-list.
Many thanks in advance, -Peter
Yesterday a bunch of people got together to build up their kits of 5 watt
digital radio transceivers!
These are HF ham radio transmitter/recievers that connect to a computer
over USB, and allow communication on digital modes on what we call low
frequencies these days (but they're also called Shortwave even though
they're now the longest waves we use). Technically one is supposed to have
a ham radio license to transmit on these frequencies, although anyone is
allowed to listen in.
This is the kit they were building:
https://qrp-labs.com/qdx.html
We used the video microscope and all six soldering stations! It was the
most soldering happening at the same time in sudoroom in a long time. The
event will happen again on Wednesday.

I just learned of this event and thought I'd share with Sudo Room.
9th International Symposium on Academic Makerspaces (ISAM) 2025

Hello Makerspaces, Hackerspaces, and Everything in Between,
I am contacting some makerspaces and hackerspaces in the SF Bay Area about
a new makerspace that is connected to the pro-Trump/MAGA movement and to
the Military Industrial Complex (more advanced military drones to murder
people on behalf of Emperor Trump & USA empire):
https://sfstandard.com/2025/01/20/san-francisco-maga-techies/
Their co-founder Justin Laser Bong Zelaya and his connections to the
Military Industrial Complex (scroll down for work on CIA-funded National
Security Hackathon):
https://www.linkedin.com/in/justin-zelaya-2236b5292
Both co-founders *Justin Laser Bong Zelaya* and *Tony Loehr *(goes by
"forkbomb" in some spaces) are currently or were previously connected with
Noisebridge hackerspace.
Their website pointing out their connections to a CIA and DoD connected
National Security Hackathon:
https://general-lithium.com/general-lithium-battery-powers-victory-at-natio…
I will find more info/evidence of this group and the individuals connected
to them (Justin Laser Bong Zelaya and Tony Loehr/@forkbomb )
*All of this is about hackers & makers & techies who are working with white
supremacist, patriarchal, colonialist powers and utilizing hackerspace +
makerspace resources for these imperatives.*

Hey folks,
We¹ve got some dead/dying 8' fluorescent tubes hanging above in Sudo.
Fixtures are for single nipple at each end. I¹d prefer warmer a color
temp, under 4000k.
Rather than cobbling together something, we should get the correct
replacement bulbs.
I found these-
https://www.amazon.com/8FT-Bulbs-3000K-6500K-Fluorescent-Replacement/dp/B0C
SYMPJHZ?ie=UTF8
I¹m pretty sure the CRI wouldn¹t be that great (the ad doesn¹t mention
it).
A local industrial lighting store in Concord (CME Lighting) has the Satco
#S29917- 3500K 8¹ long led bulbs, 40W 5300 lumens, 82 CRI. $29.95 each.
https://www.satco.com/products/S29917
The Satco¹s should fit the bill nicely and very likely be more issue free
than the ones from Amazon. Decent CRI, local supplier, etc.
We should try two over the incoming area then see if we like them.
Any budget in the pot for these?
