I am in complete agreement with Marc and Bill here, and am very much
against any kind of collaboration with military recruitment-related
endeavors in our community. I sent out a tweet from sudoroom to the
organizer (who had tweeted about the event being held at sudoroom) that the
members have not endorsed this event, and some are vehemently opposed. Her
response is below:

@sudoroom <https://hootsuite.com/dashboard#> Everyone we spoke with was
welcoming and great. If anyone was bothered, please have them contact me.
We won't be back next month.

I have to agree with Marc here. I think initially
this probably comes
off as a "good way to help techie kids with a competition" but actually
is targeted at kids to basically be a forum for promotion of the
technological ventures of the military industrial complex. The name
CyberPatriot should be a dead give-away that this is not something we
want to be promoting anything like this or have it in our space. Even
if it wasn't an outright Air-Force recruitment front, this kind of
jingoistic marketing (in the name itself) should be dealt with a heavy
dose of scepticism.

What? What have you been smoking?
The Air Force Association's CyberPatriot? Sponsored by Northrop
Grumman?!Why are people assuming that this is something sudo room
wants to support
or in any way encourage?
This sounds terrible. I am going to take this up at this Wednesdays sudo
room meeting. I am completely against anything like this happening in or
near sudo room in any way shape or form. I do not believe I am alone in
feeling like this. I am both surprised and very disappointed that a
critical and sceptical approach was not taken in dealing with something
like this on behalf of sudo room.
