Peter and I worked on the chromebooks today.
We flashed 2, yay!!
Actually we spent most of the session looking at using a jig to do the
flash without
removing the motherboards.
Peter was working with the one Jake mentioned (laser cut acrylic with pogo
pins)
But it is hard to use. Did have a label that said "Bad" Maybe there is a
good that
we didn't see.
I was looking at making a thing that could flash many different chromebook
boards.
I think it is promising. I got to cut and glue and drill some bits and
see.
Also Peter wondered about the linux support for these chromebooks. Lubuntu
has working
Wifi, sound and camera. The media keys don't work. But on coming home I
played with
mine and found if you change the keyboard model in settings from 102-key
(or whatever
is the default) to "chromebook" then the volume up and down work.
"Chromebook" is
near the bottom of the drop down list.
I tried to get the GalliumOs keyboards installed in Lubuntu
(
https://apt.galliumos.org/pool/main/x/xkeyboard-config/)
file xkb-data_2.23.1-1ubuntu1-galliumos1_all.deb
That adds a bunch of keyboards but I didn't see brightness working. But my
chromebook
ran out of juice before I could test more. I'll find a power adapter and
try more.

Hi:
Do you have (or do you know someone who has) an old Chromebook? We can
help install Linux on it; then you can have a real fully-functioning
general purpose laptop instead of one running crippled ChromeOS.
We'll be doing this to a bunch of old Chromebooks tomorrow (Sunday 9/16)
11-2 at Sudoroom, so come on by and bring yours.

Hope to see you tomorrow, -Peter
