I heard noisebridge is moving towards a
self-hosted Discord replacement.
Maybe that would work better if a more open design and multi-channel
features are needed.

I assume you're referring to starting a
Signal chat. I do use Signal
but I
don't think it's anything like a Discord, and a lot of people simply
won't use
it and even if they joined a Signal chat they would leave when it was
distracting them. There is a big difference between the way people use
Signal
and Discord, and Discord is a much better match for what the Sudoroom
community needs.
Of course there are already a bunch of Sudoroom groups on Signal, some of
which i'm a part of, but they're hidden except to people who are in
them, and
no history is kept. Signal exists to protect private conversations, and
community-building requires openness.

Let's get it started! We can email

group snowballs. Anyways, I haven't come to
any hardware hack nights
last
year either since I'm an undergrad.
As an extension of that, we could revive BACH <
https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/BACH> by making an inter-hackerspace
Signal, which seems more conducive to involvement than the current
Discord
bridged setup.
