Last time Rajah and I went looking, we couldn't find any pis, and the last time I saw
the box of SBCs, they appeared to be older models without wifi.
The mac minis I saw (and the one I have at home, which was of a similar model) are late
2006, and according to apple have an idle power draw of 23W:

Assuming the info I found is right
(https://energyusecalculator.com/electricity_laptop.htm), an average laptop uses 60w. So
the mini might be a good solution for us. I don't have the expertise necessary to
test/compare power draw of a given laptop though; would anyone be interested in doing so?
I'd love to learn.

locker. But they are not energy efficient, and we need to be careful about
things that get left on all the time because they run up our power bill.
The raspberry pi is not a bad idea and i think there are a few around.

I believe Rajah knows of a laptop that
doesn't have a working screen, which
would be perfect for that TV. It would have wifi and can be attached to
the
wall right under the TV, and a mouse and keyboard can be plugged in if
necessary (although i'm skeptical if that's a good idea)
