We should really invite Daniella Martin out to
sudoroom at some point to give an insect cooking class! I believe she's in San
Francisco, and is probably one of the most articulate supporters of entomophagy in the US.
Check out her website, Girl Meets Bug, and her really funny 5 minute Ignite talk from
last year. Tag line: "Eat bugs, save the world"!
Patrik (who is frankly also somewhat grossed out by the concept, but supports the
thinking behind it)

Eating bugs is actually already something of a
sudo room tradition, due to the happy coincidence of canned silkworms for sale at Koreana
Plaza, a heat gun and crock pot at sudo room, and a flight of fancy:

The recipe needs work. I tried to use the heat gun to add crisp but some sogginess
remained. I think they can go from passable to delicious if deep-fried in peanut oil.

when i was a kid, i would occasionally eat giant
ants. surely with a little black beans, oats, and bbq sauce we can make some awesome
burgers, maybe still charge $30/plate

that we throw away huge amounts of good stuff cause we can't eat it quick enough. Then
we make sure that only the rich have access to more. Eating bugs might be a fun novelty,
but the solution to the food problem is to stand up against the systematic starvation of
poor cities and countries around the world. Next time you see a $30 a plate restaurant in
the mission or down town Oakland ask your self who's getting feed and who is left to
eat bugs.
