I have used cozy.co for managing rentals in the past,
but if you can look
past all the rental-property jargon it's actually really nice for
processing arbitrary monthly payments.

I was actually thinking about this problem last
week and did some
research...
* Tendenci <https://www.tendenci.com/> - Free & open source, actively
maintained <https://github.com/tendenci/tendenci>, runs on python
<https://tendenci.readthedocs.io/en/latest/installation/installation.html#required-dependencies>
and has additional features like event management, newsletters, and photo
galleries.
* Servicebot <https://servicebot.io/> - Just does subscriptions, also
free & open source (or you can pay for them to host it), runs on nodejs
(the clear popular favorite of sudoers), actively maintained
<https://github.com/service-bot/servicebot>
* Killbill <http://killbill.io/> - FOSS, actively maintained
<https://github.com/killbill/killbill>, however runs on java and mysql
I might play around with a local instance of Tendenci as I'm curious
about it generally. Mebbe someone with nodejs foo could try out Servicebot?

Looking at alternatives we quickly run into the
question. What's a
reasonable amount to pay for this service? And what do we value. It seems
like a cloud based service is potentially best in terms of convenience.
I get the sense a free alternative is preferred but it would have to be
convenient. It would seem we have payed a lot of money for our current free
services when we add up profit not made due toacking features and function
so.
Is there any budget? It seems that ~50 a month opens us up to a pretty
wide spread of decent programs.
There are free alternatives however.
It appears that every option has some learning curve so I'm trying to
keep long term vision alive alongside current restraints.
Just checking in,

Hi all,
It might be time to look for alternatives to the sudo-humans software
that both CCL and sudo room depend on for signing up and tracking members.
Sudo-humans <https://github.com/sudoroom/sudo-humans> is still missing
some very basic must-have features (like notifying anyone that someone's
credit card is bouncing, or that a new member signed up!), and the code
seems fairly unmaintainable now that the initial author has left...
I've seen both CiviCRM <https://civicrm.org/>and Odoo
<https://github.com/odoo/odoo> suggested as well-developed and
well-maintained Open Source solutions. Several of the hackerspaces in the
Nation of Makers network seemed to be switching towards Odoo, for example.
Does anyone have experience with CiviCRM, or Oboo, or want to help us
explore our best options? Please pitch in, and help us decide! It would be
great if CCL and Sudo could move together to a new platform.
