By the way, we also have a sub-list for discussing this sort of thing, more
focused on medical device technology,

Dear All,
Marc, Anthony and I have been talking about starting up an initiative to
build a desktop open source biotech lab set up (an evolution of the current
open source movement) so that we could open up the world of biotech to all
hobbists not just those with access to labs.
At the moment we're thinking of starting small and simple with a small
desktop lab that would allow you to transform bacteria to express green
florescent protein (i.e. they would glow) but hopefully expanding out to
bigger and more important projects to open up the world of biotech science
to amateurs (and hopefully the development of therapeutics to treat
disease).
We're currently considering having our first meet up to discuss the
project this upcoming Friday evening. Is anyone else interested in joining?
All the best,
Ryan
