We are announcing a new "let's get out of the room" event where we walk
around art galleries exploring the math in art.
This is a collaboration between Noisebridge and SudoRoom, but since we are
on lu.ma now we are attracting people who I think are not part of our
hackerspaces. This is a nice way to get folks to learn about hacking!

*Theme: Where is the math in art?
SudoRoom
<https://sudoroom.org/morning-math-telenovela-parte-1-precision-globes-and-the-haversine-dream/>
and Noisebridge <https://www.noisebridge.net/> hackerspaces will be
converging on the SF Moma during *Downtown San Francisco First Thursdays
<https://www.dftsf.com/>* to interweave math, life, art and more!
Schedule
We'll begin at the SF Moma the new Kara Walker installation Fortuna and the
Immortality Garden (Machine)
which is in part inspired by science fiction writer Octavia Butler's
novels *Parable
of the Sower <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parable_of_the_Sower_(novel)>*
and *Parable of the Talents
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parable_of_the_Talents_(novel)>*.
The piece is on view at the SF Moma, which is is free for Bay Area residents
<https://www.sfmoma.org/free-days/#first-thursdays>on the first Thursday
each month!
We could start by talking about how *mathematical ways of thinking* resemble
and differ from the "Earthseed" philosophy
<https://godischange.org/the-book-of-the-living/> from the* Parable* books,
which the narrator at one point describes like this:
*I’m trying to speak—to write—the truth. I’m trying to be clear. I’m not
interested in being fancy, or even original. Clarity and truth will be
plenty, if I can only achieve them. If it happens that there are other
people outside somewhere preaching my truth, I’ll join them. Otherwise,
I’ll adapt where I must, take what opportunities I can find or make, hang
on, gather students, and teach.*
