Hey Sudo!
Yet another session of the excellent Coursera Crypto course has started as
of today! [0] If you are interested in learning more about cryptography,
this is a great place to start.
Additionally, I and some others are interested in starting a weekly study
group to discuss the course material and help each other with the
assignments. We were thinking Sudo Room would be a good place to host it!
So this email is meant to:
1. Gauge interest in such a study group from the sudo community
2. Make sure it's ok to host something like this at Sudo
Is there anything we should do to host this at sudo in the most positive
way possible for the space and community?

There was once a crypto study group maybe a year and a half ago at the old
sudo. It was well attended for the first week or two, but attendance
precipitously dropped off.
I'd be interested in a study group seeing as I've never actually finished
all of this class before :-/
I'm sure that it would be fine to host this - I would imagine that the only
requirement would be a sudoroom member who wants to bottom line this. Any
takers? Also - we should check the calendar to try to find a time where we
think we can get good turnout without overlapping with too many other
events:

I can commit to awareness building amongst the various cryto groups I'm a
part of . It would be awesome if more bitcoin people did the course.
I'm fairly overloaded right now. I'd be most likely to participate on
Friday or esp Sunday .
It will be a great thing if something can come together.
I feel like not very many people realize that Dan Boneh's course is
structured as pretty broad survey so you can dip in in the middle and get
something out of it.

This is a great idea. And you all can def use Sudo for this - or we can
reserve a private room at Omni. Happy to help put it on the calendar,
etc (although I can't commit to the course).
Is there a day of the week/weekend daytime that you have in mind? Maybe
we can put out a poll on the list for what day would work best for folks
who are interested. I'm sure many would dig this.

Can I just say that I'd really prefer if no one puts it on the calendar
until a sudoroom member steps up and agrees to bottom line this? We already
suffer from enough ghost events....

Hey Sudo Room!
Sorry for dropping the ball on organizing this - travel, conferences, and
work got in the way. I and a small group (currently 3 people) plan on
meeting at Sudo Room *Sunday at 6:30* to have an informal study group for
the Crypto I class. We will be talking about the current material, the
problem set, and the assignment.
If you are taking the course now, please join us! If you are not, or are
unsure if you want to continue, remember that the first problem set is* due
on Monday*, so you still have time!!
If it goes well, or there is sufficient interest expressed on the list, we
will consider making it a regular event and putting it on the calendar.
April Glaser has kindly offered to help us with that, if we decide to do so.
