Hello!
Was hoping a day could get picked to do a major space clean out and Mop Removal? Would love to have the space to get the woodworking corner working and I’m sure there are valuable parts that we could set up an Ebay corner for that we just haven’t sorted through- I’d be happy to volunteer a few days for that!

I want to say that I’m sorry for the inappropriate email I sent out banning
Trevor. I thoughtlessly sent out an email full of complaints from a third
party which should have been kept private. This was a violation of both
parties' privacy, and contains a lot of harmful and dehumanizing language
that no one should have to experience. And worse, the unequal treatment of
a POC constitutes a racist double standard. I want to apologize for the
harm I’ve caused, and the damage and trauma I’ve caused by making POC in
our community feel unwelcome and targeted.
I sent out the message after receiving multiple complaints on multiple
channels, giving it a sense of intensity and urgency and was concerned
there was some immediate ongoing incident which now doesn’t seem to be
true. We have caught a lot of flack for not having a way to respond to
urgent issues, but I was not in a good mental state to be responding to
incidents, and was irresponsible for me to share this information. It was
illogical for me to respond at all, Safe Space Bans are only for people in
the building who feel unsafe, and other longer term bans are handled in
committee.
Again I want to say that I’m sorry for the harm that I’ve caused and
endangering our community. I hope I can regain the trust of those affected
by my actions.

Hello SUDO Community,
I have an update on the foreclosure, I have attached a letter from CAST,
which also summarizes all of the updates. Basically Mulberry has told us:
1. X organization intends to pay off Mulberry Trusts’s loan to Omni
Commons of approximately $873,973.00
2. Here is a $10,000 non-refundable deposit to show we are serious.
3. Attach a copy of Omni's Board Resolution noting the agreement between
Omni and the organization paying off the loan.
4. If we do not hear from you by Tuesday, May 14th at 12pm, we will
direct the foreclosure trustee to file the paperwork.
CAST appears to be willing to work with us even if the foreclosure is
filed. But we also have the option to comply with Mulberry's requirements
and fundraise to purchase the building with funding from another source
within the 1 week timeframe. We will likely be entertaining proposals from
Peoples Programs and City In Motion at tomorrow's board meeting.
Please let me know if you have any questions, or ideas or insights.
Best
William
> I’m sorry for the delay on this. It turns out that the LOI should be
submitted by CAST to Omni Commons. We will turn around and submit this for
consideration by Omi Commons.
I wanted to highlight a few things:
-
I believe we have till Sunday evening or early Monday morning to share a
signed LOI for purchase to the Trust. This is to be accompanied by a
$10,000 check. We then have 24 additional hours to submit the full payment
to the Trust at which time the title is released to Omni Commons.
-
If this timing cannot be met, the foreclosure action will be undertaken
and there is 90 days to pay down the loan. The clock would essentially
start on Tuesday the 14th.
CAST has the ability to pay $10,000 for the deposit but not the balance
within 24 hours after that. Given this reality, we will let the Trust know
of our plans to pursue an LOI with Omni Commons and the need for additional
time to secure the balance of funds. This assumes that they advance to
foreclose.
- CAST would like to sign an LOI with Omni Commons as quickly as
possible so we can pursue funding to meet the 90 day foreclosure window. We
will not negotiate to assemble a partnership for purchase.
We encourage Omni Commons to explore all options.
-
People’s Program and City In Motion have both expressed interest and
have reached out to CAST. I will respond to both and encourage them to
speak with Omni Commons directly.
-
We recommend that you determine, separate from CAST, if their offers
are viable and you wish to sell the building to either of them. We don’t
want to hold you up if you are able and prefer to resolve the matter
immediately.
I like this article. Nice points here
the term "Digital de escalation"
I am rethinking my way of learning and using technology. While I cannot
live without tablets and laptops, and my electronic pencil, reintroducing
paper notebooks, flashcards and print books has improved my productivity
greatly.
I think digital deescalation and working out ways to reduce online learning
is going to be a new future trend!

pad or the traditional book already coexist. Many teachers will tell you
how drawing, touch, handwriting help development, memory and creativity.
Digital tools are useful, but we must combine them with handwriting and
traditional reading. Learning to ride an electric scooter is fine, but you
have to know how to walk first»."

I would like to extend a safe space ban on Trevor to the highest degree.
The reason is explained below in an email, and FYI we have extended many
kindnesses to Trevor given their situation, they have caused a a few
problems in the past. Please let them know if you see them that they are
not welcome at sudo.
We need to Ensure safety for everyone at Omni Commons, and unfortunately
Trevor has at this point caused too many issues for us. While we may be
open to them in the future, right now it is unacceptable for them to be
sleeping in the space. Our priority should be to keep everyone safe, thanks
again.
William
i (I am initially sending this to groups of individuals before collective
> email lists),
I wanted to check with Sudo Room first about why Trevor has not been Banned
from Omni Commons by this point.
Sacred Maker Arts Collective cannot keep defending his inappropriate
patriarchal behaviors/actions.
- He sleeps in the building every night.
- He smokes in the building on a regular basis (basement offices)
throughout the day & night (the basement offices smell like cigarette
smoke, or maybe spliffs ?
- He walks around intoxicated or something (out of it) and accidentally
almost walks into people on the regular (maybe sleep deprivation ?)
Trevor also got into an altercation with Toan (EBFNB) when Toan came across
him smoking in the basement offices (between former FYE office and Village
of Love offices) Trevor called Toan a "cop" and a "bitch" for telling him
to stop smoking in the building.
Trevor should have been Banned a long time ago when he got into a fight
with Ian, which helped bring the cops into Omni Commons (more negative
light on our building & collective project.)
I want to see if Sudo Room can just Safer Space Ban him at this point as he
should not be in the Omni Commons at all. He entered Omni Commons through
being a member of Sudo Room.
Are there meeting notes indicating when Trevor was approved for Sudo Room
membership ? I am trying to figure out how he got into Omni Commons, as the
first three times I met Trevor were him smoking in the hallway, sleeping in
Sudo Room with a pile of trash around him, and him smoking in the
hallway/walking around muttering to himself really loudly.
*Among various reasons, this is why Omni Commons is dying.*
I am sending this email to several individuals & groups to get this to
happen before Trevor brings more harmful & overall negative light onto Omni
Commons.
Spencer this is awesome!
Let's connect SudoRoom with Tokyo Hackerspace and beyond!
On a side note I found that my study has become much more effective after
picking up some paper flashcards and Japanese style study notes in analog.
>>> Hi, chiming in from Tokyo here https://www.tokyohackerspace.jp/ , I'm
very
interested in this topic and have been thinking about it a lot recently
with the new copilot tools.
>>> re: what do you do with analog notes
Yes I'm fascinated by this too. I find electronic notetaking much too
ephemeral for true learning, it's also dangerous to pack all your knowledge
in the same device that has your social media, LinkedIn, etc.
I am experimenting with locking my iPad, having two tablets. There are
settings where you can remove social media etc. as well.
I use Goodnotes and Notion heavily, I know people use Obsidian. How do we
use these systems effectively? I'm starting to believe that it's harmful to
rely entirely on ebooks and electronics though.

We need pictures of sudoroom and the people in it doing cool stuff! We're
making a presentation for potential lenders who need to see how awesome
sudoroom is!
Presently missing pictures of people hacking raw electronics, using the
laser cutter, and the wood shop and lathe!
Try to upload links to pictures, rather than the pictures themselves, if
you have a Google photos link for example. Or if you only are able to email
the pictures, just email them to me not to the list!
Hello SUDO,
I'm sorry to announce that the Foreclosure is moving forward and will have
~ 90 days to come up with around 1 million dollars or the building can be
sold.
- We will keep the ball rolling with our conversations with CAST to
potentially come up with the needed funds
- We will of course be looking into any other funding options, ideas are
always welcome
Best

*Below is correspondence and some notes from our Lawyer: *
*Just wanted to let you know that the Mulberry Trust will be proceeding
with foreclosing on the property. A new trustee will be taking over the
work and proceed with the foreclosure. Mulberry Trust also wanted to let
you know that they'll be adding a late fee of $283.90 to the principal
since Omni didn't make a payment for April. Once the foreclosure is filed,
they won't be able to accept any further payments. It's truly unfortunate
that this happened but the MT did not have any other choice given the
circumstances, and it does not look like there will be an assignment of the
note to another individual or entity. *
*Below is an email I sent you previously regarding the timeline and Omni's
right to pay the debt even after foreclosure begins. Note that the longer
you wait, the more legal incurred by lender Omni will have to pay. Let me
know if there's any way I can help.*
*----*
*If they proceed as quickly as possible, they can schedule a*
*foreclosure sale no sooner than 90 days after the date on which theyrecord
a notice of default. Because the loan is a commercial loan, itis on a fast
timeline.1. They have to give you notice of recording the notice of
default. After the notice of default is recorded, the lender has to mail,
post, record and publish a notice of sale.Omni has a right to pay the debt
up to 5 business days before theforeclosure sale date. (See Civil Code
Section 2924c(e). The dateis extended in various ways if the foreclosure
sale doesn't happen.*

> Can collectives be prepared to prepay April *June *if necessary?
Given the time it takes for external transfers to come in, the only way to
pay this in time to my understanding is to transfer money from either the
SR and/or SMAC account to pay this bill [because SR and SMAC also have
funds in Unify account, so its not external]. The amount transferred could
be quickly returned after other collectives pay rent + from a donation that
was offered.
The amount still needed to transfer temporarily from SR/SMAC would need to
total around $1800. Is this okay with collectives, especially SR and SMAC?
It is very crucial we pay our mortgage payment, especially given that
Mulberry is still deliberating whether or not to foreclose on us.

Speaking to folks at Noisebridge, but I'm thinking of starting a learning
how to learn subgroup at SudoRoom.
This would include topics such as:
- Switching back to analog for notetaking and learning
- Mixing analog notes and ebooks
- doing digital detox on your laptops and phones and tablets so that they
become learning devices instead of consumption devices
- Creating a picture of new technologies like AI which seem to be
constantly changing
I'm not sure what a good time to meet for this would be... I'm guessing
Tuesday? I am not sure I can come in this week though! I have job
interviews. But I think cross meeting between SudoRoom, Noisebridge and
other spaces is ideal!
