Do you love to code? Are you into Android? Do you want to learn to write your own apps? If you answered YES to these questions then come to Noisebridge on Tuesday
May 5 from 6 - 9PM, when I'll be teaching an introductory course for Android beginners.
First I'll explain the basics of Android development, then we'll dive right in and write your first app. We'll spend the first couple of hours working together; in
the third hour I'll open the floor to discussion and advice on your app ideas. By the end of the class you'll have built a few apps and have enough knowledge to
start writing your own apps!
Important: Please pre-install Android Studio on your laptop before the class.
About me: I'm an software engineer working at Amazon Music. I've worked with Android for the last five years and love it so much that I want to share my knowledge
with other eager app developers.
Email me at barry(a)fruitman.me for details or join the Slack domain android101.slack.com.
See you there!
Barry
I found the modem. We should return it and get our $150 back.
it's at about eye level on the equipment rack nearest the wall, upstairs.
It doesn't have a power adaptor plugged into it, but i'm sure there's a
nice 12v 1 or 2 amp power adaptor up there that goes with it.
Max, can you tell them that we have it and we'd like to return it for
credit? You can contact me to actually deliver it to them.
thank you

FYI, sonic.net (our original ISP at sudo and the omni) charged our card
$150 because we did not send back the modem, which I wrote to the list
about one month ago. C'est la vie.

the giant robot arm is again functional.
https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Giant_robot_arm
unfortunately, in the process of repairing it we reset the memory and
god-mode is no longer enabled, so we have to figure out which registers to
edit to get it working again. Hopefully Ben can help, he figured it out
the first time.
yay robot!!!

Hey any sudofolks played with these sdks yet?
It's all interesting / I'm not that interested at the moment though in looking at tons of links of what other people are doing (I can google that)
Is anyone at Sudoroom doing stuff ???

are "building materials" short for construction dust? what are we even
taking about here? the most olfactory offensive substances i've encountered
we're compost methane - which has been fairly sever at times.
things we could do:
1) clean bleach all trash/compost bins/buckets
2) sweep & mop all construction areas after work is done for the day.
3) cover all building materials with tarps/cloth
4) set up/install fans/ventilation
5) make sure fans are on prior to events
I'm sympathetic to the tension that exists for SudoRoom - are we a
hackrrspace or a social worker community outreach center?
I think it's cool to make suggestions, but it's cool also to respect
boundaries.
People were pushing for SudoRoom hackers to become at risk youth mentors
and outreach coordinators. While I respect that work, i think there are a
lot of cool folks involved in social work who are great at that stuff. It's
certainly not easy! and not for everyone.
As a woman I'm often pressure to be involved in initiatives for educating
children in ways I don't feel hacker men are. It's almost like a second or
third job! I guess it's just part of societal expectations =D
Overall it's a good thing though. It's cool being around activists, social
workers, etc. It might be nice to push the lines, but it might also be
unhealthy for social workers to interfere too much and not let hackers be
hackers.
Educating kids is great, but this is a primarily adult space with a lot of
dangerous stuff. The pressure on female hackers especially to provide free
babysitting and childcare for random children is also an understandable
misunderstanding but needs to be gently pushed back.
thanks for being diverse!

Hello friends,
Someone came in today who was very concerned with our efforts to make our
space truly accessible - she was particularly concerned with building
improvements and the impact on those with chemical sensitivities. She was
also concerned with the sound system at today's event as there were some
issues w/it that made it difficult for people to hear.
She asked us to not use any materials that will inhibit those with chemical
sensitivities from accessing the space and to create communication around
our accessibility and needs.
She asked to see our plan for how we will do this. We don't have this
scoped out currently and I'm wondering if someone would be willing to take
on the task of researching this issue and making recommendations to the
building Working Group as well as drawing up a basic outline for providing
greater accessibility.
Can someone volunteer for this?

from my perspective the greatest challenges that we face on this issue are
organic in nature. keeping lids on compost, regular disinfecting & improved
ventilation might be a good 1st step.
i'll bleach the trash room after the trash goes out pm
