Greetings!
For discussion & possible consensus at the next Omni Delegates Meeting on
March 1st:
I'd like to propose that Omni pay for an exhibition table ($100) at the Allied
Media Conference <https://www.alliedmedia.org/amc> this summer in Detroit.
I will be attending, albeit also as a representative for Sudo Mesh.
For those unfamiliar with the conference, it's one of the radder ones I've
heard of over the past decade - but have never attended myself. The theme
is essentially the intersection of social justice and media - what AMC
describes as "media-based organizing
<https://www.alliedmedia.org/media-based-organizing>," defined as "any
collaborative process that uses media, art, or technology to address the
roots of problems and advances holistic solutions towards a more just and
creative world." This is the 20th annual conf, which is always located in
*Detroit*, and takes place this summer from *June 14-17*.
Are any other collective members also planning to attend? Would you be
interested in sharing an Omni table to display info about your projects
and/or helping to staff the table for some shifts throughout the duration
of the conference?
*Please forward this email along to your collectives so we can assess our
capacity to participate!*
If there aren't a few other Omni collective members able to come and help
staff the table, perhaps Omni could share Sudo Mesh's table and collectives
could provide me with some of your handouts / brochures / flyers / arts /
etc for display
Please send a reply to me or to discuss(a)omnicommons.org if you'd like to
help with organizing around AMC!

REMINDER: we are starting work now to close up the walls in the
wheelchair bathroom. Today and tomorrow. Stop by if you'd like to
help!

Might there be a locker space, or half-locker space, available to
use or rent?
Nick and I both tinker on old tube audio amplifiers, and would like to
bring in some projects. The main items of concern are old vacuum tubes.
They're fragile, and kind of a pain to replace.

Dear friends,
At last night's delegates meeting we spent over an hour talking about
RunningWolf. The delegates did not make any new consensus decisions,
but we did review the status quo at length and it now seems clear to
me that:
* Nobody is satisfied with how mediation went
* Many are unsatisfied with his signed statement
* Several people feel that he has personally harassed and threatened them
* When I approved ZRW's key card last week, I acted too quickly
* If his return had been directly proposed to delegates, several would
have blocked
* Many people who I value and care about feel *very* strongly that
they cannot share space with ZRW, to the point where including ZRW
would implicitly exclude them
After hearing all these things, I decided the best thing would be to
revoke his card. Julian and I went upstairs and told him. It was
raining, so we didn't ask him to leave right away, but we told him
that next time he left, he would not be able to get back in.
We spoke for over an hour, and I tried my best to be on good terms
given the circumstances. This was my first extended interaction with
the man, and I understand now why his situation has been so
controversial and so insidious. He talks a good talk about Berkeley
politics, pollution and indigenous sovereignty, he has done real
admirable work as a tree-sitter, and he is an accomplished street
artist whose medicine wheels on every bike path have added joy to
countless lives in our city. He is unquestionably an elder, and
deserves to be treated as such.
He's also a petty, self-centered, delusional liar who seems completely
unable to take any criticism or undergo any of the necessary personal
growth or accountability of a "restorative" or "transformative"
justice process. I see a man who cannot work meaningfully with others,
who's made a long career out of burning bridges, for whom Omni is just
one more proxy battle in his war against masonic lodges, UC regents,
and anybody else he can blame for his conflicts other than himself and
his own behavior. He told me directly that he has no respect for any
mediation process, and doesn't care about how anybody else feels. He
plainly admitted to making threats to break our windows, and to
actually doing similar acts of sabotage (such as cutting off Berkeley
Liberation Radio's antenna) although he claimed he never followed
through on the threat against Omni, saying "I never do just one
window".
He claims to speak for a Real Oakland of vigilante justice which will
rise out of the woodwork to avenge him. Don't buy it. Don't let him
appropriate black struggle when all it means is glorifying gang
violence and throwing the N word around. Don't let him insult his own
ancestors by acting a fool in their name. And most of all, don't let
him distract us from all the other important work we can be doing
besides enabling his abuse.
I tried to give him my best, but he doesn't want it. I am done. I will
no longer waste any time advocating for him to be inside Omni. I am
content with this being the end of this road.
With love and solidarity,
Yar
Do we want to do this? I'm not even sure who would sign their form.

Subject: [sudo-info] Request to use your space to shoot an interview
To: info(a)sudoroom.org
Hello!
My name is Frank and I'm a senior producer for Vox's new series of
explainers for Netflix.
I'm coming to San Francisco Tuesday evening to shoot an interview with
Jackson Palmer, the creator of Dogecoin for our episode about
cryptocurrencies early next week.
I'm looking for spaces where we could shoot and Jackson suggested that
I reach out to hackerspaces in the area. Sudo Room looks especially
cool and I would love to shoot there!
We would need Sudo Room to sign a location release allowing it to
appear on Netflix, which I attached to this email for you to review. I
would also need relative quiet during the shoot.
I apologize about the short notice, but if these conditions don't
sound to onerous, I would be thrilled to interview Jackson in such an
awesome setting.

Subject: [sudo-info] Free Coding Classes at the Berkeley Public Library
To: "info(a)sudoroom.org" <info(a)sudoroom.org>
Hello,
My name is Dan Beringhele and I’m a Librarian at the Berkeley Public
Library. We are hosting a 10-week coding class here at the Central
Library beginning this Saturday. I’m really reaching out because I’m
amazed by the work that Sudo Room does and I’m hoping that you can
help spread the word about the class. It is a beginner’s level class
but I think it may have a wider appeal as well. All are welcome, no
need to sign up. Just come to the Library this Saturday at 10:30 am.
Feel free to reach out with any questions.
