Vending machine feedback

The vending machine now provides some more feedback after money is put in. Source code associated with my contribution is here. I haven't documented the other components of the vending machine. https://thomaslevine.com/scm/sudo-vending Based on the implementation details, it appears to me that the bill acceptor is in fact plugged into one board (Arduino Leonardo) that is connected by serial to another board (Raspberry Pi). Why is the former board used at all? That is, why is the bill acceptor not plugged directly into the latter board?

reinstate Rannette's good standing

I said "your 'community' space," but honestly, I still want this to be my space, too. I hardly ever make a fuss about any of this stuff because it's all so futile, you know? but in this case, I really want to make my point clear: I think we should rescind our action against Rannette. I think she's been treated unfairly. Even if she is "aggressive" towards you or your compatriots, I don't think we need white dudes policing our space of black women's bodies. Matt, you claim to have acted in another's interest and you offer an injured third party -- let them speak for themselves, because I don't think it's your place right now. If there was a violent incident that threatened our space, let's hear it from a witness or an involved party. "Something Happened" is not good enough. Otherwise "but above all the Omni Commons must maintain a safe, welcoming environment" seems to fly directly in the face of the lived experience of too many black people.

Call for Facilitators / Participants in a sudo Men's Group

Hey all, I wanted to reach out for some feedback. Seeking folks who would want to facilitate or participate in a men's group. I've previously participated in small groups like this and found them beneficial for various reasons. I would like to see if folks have had similar or different experiences. The way I'm thinking about this would culminate in something like a regular meeting for men in the sudo room community to discuss relevant issues including those of identity, oppression, privilege, patriarchy, gender, sexuality, stereotypes, safe space, and mutual support. This may not be the best or even a viable path to approach these topics, but I wanted to throw it out there to see if there is any interest. Thanks, Matt

It's not huge as SEM's go, but definitely not desktop - more like "small room sized". And it would obviously need some dedicated person to keep it in good running condition. It is however almost brand new, and currently *running*, at <5nm resolution! Beam Services Inc is down in Pleasanton, so I guess interested parties could potentially go and have a look at the system. This kind of equipment would be a significant commitment and investment in time and effort on our part, so let's coordinate on this shall we? Nope, just finding a good adhesive for reattaching it is hard. I ended up just using an open cell foam pad to push the header on the glass mechanically. Please take some time between now and then to clean and prepare before then. We should also schedule a work party on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday that week to get everything cleared and ready. To prepare: * All rooms must be unlocked or unlockable. Do we have a key to the CCL closets on the master keyring? * Ballroom must be cleared of tables and chairs, mezzanine of stray books * Extension cords disconnected and pathways clear * All hallways cleared of stuff and at least 3' clearance in front of any electrical panels * Any piles of stuff should be removed and cluttered areas organized, especially if flammable * All storage areas cleaned up a bit and flammable materials put away (mesh in sudo; phat beets, Village, CCL in basement) * Any easily flammable furniture that has appeared in the basement (couches in particular) needs to be removed. Couches are something the fire department told us to move out of the basement during our very first inspection * It would be great to finally finish the door into the bocce court I will be able to be at the building that day to go on the walkthrough but anyone else can join. In the meantime, I think it'd be best if the Omni community could at least come to a consensus about condemning this harassment. Swarms of Flies in SudoRoom

FYI, there are tons of flies, I’ve killed about 50, there were a bunch in the hall bathroom and under the blue table at the back west wall, and they are still coming. Does anyone have any extra fly swatters that they could bring? or more of those electric ones? Thanks, Null

Software Hack Night - timing, attendance

Hi, I haven't been to the space yet but I thought Software Hack Night would be a good opportunity to visit. So I was wondering if anyone was planning on going this week? But more importantly, what day is the event? It says 4/25, but I noticed it's actually scheduled for midnight. Is it actually planned for Wed night / Thurs morning?
