Luma has a nice feature where we can send attendees a pre-game email. We
can make a habit of this with the hardware hack night meetups as well!

SudoRoom prefers face to face discussion, so we'll minimize going over
videos and presentations while we're at the session. Looking forward to a
fun *in-person* event.
Downloads
-
We'll be using Ollama for the demo - Please download it on your laptop

-
Have your IDE ready - Favorites are Microsoft Visual Code
We'll be whiteboarding the rest along with the class.
Food for thought
We have posted some interesting videos to watch before or after the event.

There are some nice clips of Ms. Butler herself speaking on Democracy Now
in 2005!
Regarding Parking:
As you know, there's an epidemic of car vandalism. - Don't park on
Telegraph around the Omni.
-
Bay Wheels bike share is the best option, the residential streets to the
east of Shattuck are quite wealthy and less vandalized for some reason
parking and then biking is a great solution.
-
Park a 5 minute walk on Dover street between 47th and 44th (the fancy
residential across the street on Shattuck
-
Also around the large Walgreens parking lot at 5055 Telegraph is much
safer too.
-
OmniCommons serve folks in need with food not bombs, etc. so be
considerate of members and people hanging out in the front. They are not
going to harm you or your car.

Hey Sudo Room,
I want to check if there is an official lease that Sudo Room has with Omni
Commons in terms of leasing the specific space that Sudo Room does at this
time ?
or even an unofficial lease
Is Sudo Room considered a "fiscally sponsored project" of Omni Commons in
terms of 501c3 relations ?
Without Omni Commons, does Sudo Room exist as a legal entity ? (501c3 stuff)
I am checking in with a community organization that is oriented towards
community land trusts about finding a partner organization to join Omni
Commons in potentially paying off the mortgage in exchange for equity, etc.
The organization is non-profit 501c3 that is oriented towards preventing
the usual capitalist development of land (preventing Omni Commons from
being turned into "Omni Condos" or "Omni Shopping Mall", etc.)
and they work with Sogorea Te' <https://sogoreate-landtrust.org/> Indigenous
Land Trust, among other groups.
*Can I find a Sudo Room lease or other formal/informal document that
explains how much Sudo Room contributes/pays each month and for how much
usage of Omni Commons ? *
I think we (Sudo Room) contribute *$ 2000* each month to Omni Commons ?
If I can show a formal or informal lease to this group, they can utilize it
to see how the space is structured with the current groups/entities.
Dane
P.S.- I want to check on how I can get my Sudo Room wiki account
<https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Welcome> approved ?

THIS WEEK’S THEME: THE WONDER OF PANORAMAS
- Sign up at https://lu.ma/z11o2ctd
Panoramas have enchanted people since the dawn of humankind, with people
painting 360 landscapes in caves to give the illusions of a “virtual
reality.” Panoramas have existed as theme park-style wonders back to
Shakespearan and Victorian times, allowing people to experience the wonder
of visiting far-off lands (When Thomas Cole Caught ‘Panoramania’ at the Met
<https://www.metmuseum.org/articles/thomas-cole-panorama>).
THE PANORAMA AT THE LASCAUX CAVE IN FRANCE
The theme for tonight’s SudoRoom will be panoramas in physical form through
paintings and a trip through time to see their use in children’s toys, on
light projections, tv screens and onward to modern augmented and virtual
reality!
Outside of that you can also do anything and everything! Solder, sew, and
more
HACK ON ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING <https://sudoroom.org/hardware-hack-night/>
○ *Projects:* can range from building course materials for teaching local
kids electronics to a robotic arm that draws, to light projection art, to
people building their own microchip boards! We provide the space, tools and
peer learning – you bring your project and enthusiasm!
*○ Group Sewing:* Learn to do simple mending or get help with technical
fabric and textile projects. In addition to regular machines our Sewing Lab
features heavy-duty industrial sewing machines and sergers. Our in house
sewing guru CC has worked for Academy or Art College, Tesla, SuitX, and
Zipline and has vast sewing machine repair and maintenance experience;
bring your own machine to tune up for tip-top operation and sew alongside
others.
*○ General Repair:* Fix it Clinic’s weekly Oakland residency: bring your
broken, non-functioning things – electronic gadgets, appliances, computers,
toys, sewing machines, fabric items, etc.– for assessment, disassembly, and
possible repair. We’ll provide workspace, specialty tools, and guidance to
help you disassemble and troubleshoot your item. First-time repairers and
“Fixing Families” are heartily invited. Learn more at

63/37 is great to work with! My fave, but 60/40 works well too.
I¹ll ask the folks at the radio museum; they might have a spare roll of
60/40.

lead free solder sucks! and we are pretty low on non-lead-free solder.
If anyone has extra rolls of regular lead solder (often labeled "rosin
core" or Pb 63) and you want to store it at sudoroom, it will help.
people new to solder often get frustrated when they don't realize they're
trying to use lead-free solder, which sucks. Also the flux is toxic
compared to the literal pine sap that's in regular solder.

An idea - 💡 why is SudoRoom unique in this place and time and history and how has it uniquely impacted you?
Thinking of a series of blog posts with people (we can use anonymous pseudonyms)
There is nothing like SudoRoom and no place on the world that is like Oakland. We are the most original city in the United States 🇺🇸
If we express that it will also segue nicely into the unique projects we’ve made. I don’t think our mix of Brains and creativity can be found in quite the same way on another hackerspace !
I have been adding sudoRoom events to the Decentered Arts list -
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1eX21lRIMOl3LLUhanRptk0jWbKoyZJV…
It's a great place, and there are artists hanging out and doing slide shows
of their art in people's homes. I think a missed opportunity that I could
have done better on is reaching out to people in the arts who need a place
to work and play.
Artist are natural hackers. We do have a large ballroom, ideal places for
weekly meetups of slides and artist stuff. And artists often build stuff
with robots and explore areas like agumetnd reality.
*We should always focus on what makes us special*
if we only focus on "hackers" and biotech we have stiff competition, as
Noisebridge is more well-funded and has more active nights (we love them
though)
Also, as Peter explained to me, UC Berkeley and Laney nowadays have
extremely clean and well-equipped makerspace labs, and of course stuff is
closer on campus.
Due to gentrification we have also lost a large contingent of cool happy go
lucky artsy mathematician and computer science types, and we're not in
downtown Oakland.
But the arts scene is pretty big in Oakland, and artists are hackers!
I could have done better on this!
