I'm trying to arrange a talk and audio presentation in mid-Feb by David
Monacchi, a Professor of Electroacoustic Music at the Conservatory of
Pesaro, Italy who has spent years performing 3D audio recordings of the
rainforest.
Playback of these amazing recordings requires super-specialized rooms and
sound setups and the Audium <http://www.audium.org/index.html> in SF is
about the only place I can think might be able to do it.
I sent them an email but I'm hoping someone in our community might have a
way to contact them, since if this event is going to happen, its coming up
fast.
Does anybody know anybody at Audium?
David
I think I left it there when I was showing some comrades my new LED
projector: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2457122,00.as
Not much inside it, only a $13 slimport adapter for my Nexus 7, a HDMI
cable and an audio cable, but it would be a convenience to reclaim it if
possible.

I hope everyone won't mind this unsolicited zinetic outburst. I simply
cannot contain myself.
The second issue of my zine is now online at http://resistor.spaz.org!
<http://resistor.spaz.org>
Click the PDF directory. You will find reading & printing PDFs for both
issues of SF Resistor so far.
The second issue was actually finished just before Christmas as scheduled,
but it's taken me this long to figure out FTP for the first time & get the
files up without an internet-connectable laptop of my own.
If you are just reading the zine online, select the read.pdfs for each
issue.
SFR2 appears green because it's printed on green paper. I am heading north
in a couple months but plan to produce two more issues of SFR before
leaving. I'm already at work on the 3rd one. Each issue will be printed on
different color paper. Then I will collect the zine quadrilogy & dispense
copies to excellent people. That will happen in mid-March/early April.
Instructions for printing are on page 3 of SFR2, & will soon be up on the
site in a README file.
The site will be developed into a blog (ArcTangent (x) is the name) but is
just a seedling file tree a t m.
And for anyone who saw one of the crappy first-run print copies of SFR2,
the PDF file write snafu has been corrected (it turned out to be a simple
directory name error on my part) so I have print copies that look good &
are fully legible now. I'm bringing some to the OMNI bookstore this
weekend. (My second visit to the new Sudospace.)
I would like to help develop the SR zine & teach people how to make zines,
do layout both digitally & by hand, etc.
Also I am helping my friend, a person known to many, start a combination
printshop+cafe in the east bay soon. The need is definitely there. I've
been doing my printing at the public library & the print stations there are
always packed to the max. I've started giving impromptu tutoring sessions
to puzzled library patrons, since I often seem to know more about this
stuff than the staff.

Hello,
I wanted to tell you about a project called IndieBox: indieboxproject.org/
and to see if there was interest in having its creator come in for a talk
and demo. In fact, I'm pretty sure I initially heard of this thing on the
Sudoroom mailing list a while ago.
The goal is to create a box for consumers to easily be able to run their
own web apps locally on computers they physically control, so they truly
control their data.
The software component is a distribution based on Arch Linux called UBOS.
It easily manages web apps as packages, the same way most distros package
desktop apps. Did you ever consider how easy it is to install LibreOffice,
but how you can't really do that with WordPress and OwnCloud side by side?
You have to fiddle with database provision and Apache configs. Well, UBOS
handles all of that, as well as concurrent installations for multiple
users, upgrades and backups, and it even has a testing framework to make
sure upgrades work smoothly.
I've seen a couple presentations now at the Hacker Dojo by the guy running
the project, whose name is Johannes Ernst. I figured that there would be
more interest in a place like Sudo Room for a project like this. I have
been an occasional visitor to the Sudo Room, not sure if people remember
me. However, Johannes doesn't have any connections to Sudo Room, so he
asked if I could reach out to you folks to see if you were interested in
having him come in to do a presentation.
This may be of particular interest to the Mesh project people, since they
are working on local apps. I also told Johannes to check out PeoplesOpen.
So, I can post it in that group if people think it's more appropriate, to
try to make it part of a SudoMesh meeting. However I thought that the
general theme of independences from large companies would resonate would
the larger group, so I wanted to post it here first to see what people
thought.
-Dan

Free lockers available! They are the 1ft square lockers I've been looking
for; one set of 15 lockers, and one set of 20.
We just need to go pick them up near Sebastopol with a truck, and a few
people to help with the heavy lifting. Anyone (and a truck) available to
help out tomorrow?
I'd like to keep one for CCL, and put the other either in the basement or
in the storage room between the ballroom and the cafe, and put them up for
rent for member storage space.

So are we a go for tomorrow/Sat. 2:?Got a crew lined up?I trimmed the bushes for the truck to get in, braced the top step, found an anchor point and a small block and tackle, and have a ramp mostly put together.I think it will go pretty smoothly at this end, but might be a bit slow, it ain't gonna be no Slam Dunk.I would be fine with pushing it up to 1: if that helps.
